Have had anxiety and panic issues most of my life. About two months ago I had a nervous breakdown and at that time I was prescribed remeron 30mg and pristiq 50mg. Rem before bed and pris in the morning. It's been five weeks now and I still feel anxious and depressed. I'm off work at the moment and returning in a week. I feel as though I am not ready yet because of the anxiety. After five weeks I would think that the meds should be working. My question is, should I wait longer or get my medication changed?
As it is the anxiety and panic is driving me crazy. I was on paxil for the longest time and it seemed to have helped me back then. Maybe paxil is better than pristiq for my condition?
BTW I also take clonazepam when needed which lately has been quite often. Although I know that benzo's can cause memory impairment if over used and I really don't want to abuse them either.
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Try Celexa ! I have been thru quite a few and this one gave me my life back . I take Celexa and klonopin. I also go to a Phychiatrist best Dr to see when you have Anxiety and depression , panic etc.. Try it. But most of these meds take at least six weeks to kick in. Celexa took about five. May you start feeling better soonππππ
I believe I've already tried Celexa. But can't remember when or for how long. My doc has tried me of just about all of them, cymbalta, zoloft, ciprelex, paxil, celexa, seroquel, trintellex to name a few. I will have to review with him on how I was on celexa.
That first medication clearly didn't work because it should have kicked in after two or three weeks. I was prescribed 50 mg of Sertraline (once daily) and feel much better.
Not all anti-depressants work in the same way for people and I hope you find relief -possibly try the Paxil again and take care
If you suffer mainly from anxiety-related conditions, Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) is not likely to help. Like other SNRIs, this drug is activating and while it work miracles in patients suffering from melancholic depression, it makes anxiety even worse. I would suggest switching back to paroxetine, which has the highest anti-anxiety potential among all SSRIs, or - if you want to try something new - sertraline, which is not as potent, but has an improved side-effects profile.
If neither of these drugs worked, you would need to see a specialist. There are other medications out there that can be very efficient against anxiety (irreversible MAOi), but they are rarely used these days (and certainly not by GPs) due to numerous interactions with certain types of food.
Thanks Louiselost I think that's what I'll do. Quit the pristiq and go back on paxil. After 5 weeks I should have some improvement. But nothing. More anxiety, more frequent panic, constant worry and ruminations about negative thoughts, no modivation, no energy, no appetite. There's gotta be something better than feeling like this all the time!
Thanks Johnkov, I agree with the pristiq contributing to the way I am feeling as I described to my response to Louiselost. My only issue is that my doc should have known about what he was prescribing especially knowing my illness.
