I was on Prozac for a few years. Then I was put on citalopram for like ten years. Then because it buggered up my sex drive my doctor put me on Mirtazapine. I've been on it less than 3 weeks and I've already gone up a dress size. I'm gonna call him and tell him to put me on something else. Can anyone recommend something for depression that doesn't make you gain weight please? As mad as it sounds, these antidepressants are really depressing me.
HI I don't know of any ad that doesn't make you put on weight or lose your sex drive but there is no harm in asking. It might come down to what you consider more important. x
Both. I've had a gastric bypass and am now putting on weight which is making me incredibly unhappy and I'm in a long term relationship which is highly affected by my lack of sex drive.
I too went from Citalopram to Prozac to Mirtazpine. I put on weight & it made me miserable but the side effects do disappear after the first month or so your weight should get back to normal x

Unfortunately most ADs will have bothersome side effects.
At some stage you are going to have to weigh up your depression v side effects and make a decision what is worse.
Bouncing from drug to drug because of side effects is not a good plan unless those side effects are seriously disrupting your life more than the depression.

When it comes to medications for Depression etc we are all different, your GP will take into consideration what He wishes to achieve in your Mental Health pathway.
Like many on here we seem to put on weight, no matter how I try I have piled on the pounds, However in my case I take other drugs that can also affect weight gain. Personally I am at a loss as I will be on my medications until Death.
All I can advise is try and remain active and avoid pre prepared meals. Also stop taking sugar. Eat fruit, they have natural sweeteners. Sad to say drink contains calories that hang about in the body, this is waisted calories

I have come off Mirtazapine completely. I was sick of the weight gain. I've contacted my doctor two days in a row waiting for him to talk to me about suitable alternatives. Still not had a call.
