Antihistamines

Hi all I've had really bad hayfever all summer but as I really sensative to meds have resisted taking anything, well doc says my ears are so congested I need antihistime,I've taken 4 and my good I feel awful my head is foggy I feel like it's going to explode in fact it feels very similar to how awful I felt after 2 weeks of sertraline which my doc said I must never take another Ssri.just been looking and it seems that antihistamines are similar to Ssri anyone else felt worse this after taking them with anxiety all my usual symptoms dizzyness breathing tiredness pain are worse also xxx

It really does depend on the antihistamine, there's a lot of different kinds. Like you I hate meds, I refuse to take any, but I did start antihistamines recently as I've been quite clogged up, lump in throat etc and doc thinks it could be an allergy. It took me a long time to start them, but they don't really affect many people badly - its even more rare for an antihistamine to affect someone badly. Some types can indeed make you feel a bit sleepy for a few days - but even that's rare these days. I think they are making you feel wooly headed because you are afraid to take them and expect a bad reaction. I say this because this is what happens to me when I take meds that I really don't want to take them.  What helped me get round to taking the antihistamine was that children as young as 2 can take them safely, they sell them in supermarkets - they really are very safe - of all the meds you can take they are pretty problem free. Your more likely to take a bad reaction yo paracetamol - which I'm sure you've taken in your life at some point and been fine with

And don't google for side effects, antihistamines are not at all like SSRIs - they really aren't similar. They slow histimine production, this can cause minor symptoms - not any of which are a problem really - and none that are comparable to an adverse reaction to a SSRI

Hi thanks for your reply still feeling awful today,I havnt taken one today just to see if it makes a difference, the funny thing is my little boy who is 5 takes antihistimine twice a day it does make him tired but otherwise he is fine with it.can I ask you are your symptoms all day everyday and are they so severe they have changed your life ie can't work,go shopping ect thanks xxxx
