anxiety and depression meds??

Has anyone took meds for anxiety and depression that actually worked?

Hi codyray

I have been taking Fluoxetine for a long time, and guess that I shall continue to do so.  It makes me relax more and my body is not so tense.  The dose can be adjusted by your GP to what he thinks is appropriate....many other people on this forum take different prescribed meds to help them.  Sometimes it is trial and error to find what suits you, and it does take a while for your body/brain to get used to them..  Good Luck!

Hi codyray,

I have been taking mirtazapine for 3 and a half months now for anxiety and depression. I am much improved, they are working very well for me. Had a few issues with increased anxiety in the beginning but that calmed down and eventually I started to feel so much better! They help me loads with my sleep too because they have a sedating effect, I suffered really bad insomnia from my depression and anxiety, but I sleep lots now smile.

It depends, an anti depressant or anti anxiety medication is used to lower the intensity of symptoms, they can never cure depression or anx. For many getting some relief from the symptoms is enough to help them move on and never need them again. I think looking at medication without therapy is never really going to help people move on properly, medication is for symptoms, therapy is for resolution, i think a more balanced use of meds and therapy is the best way to go. Not for everyone of course, i am in therapy and will never take meds, some will take meds and never try therapy, just all depends

Hi,

NOTHING works all the time. I get substantial relief MOST of the time: depression, taking Fluoxatine; anxiety, taking Pregabalin.

In over 20 years of juggling  meds thats the best so far for me.

Nothing will prevent reactive anxiety, but CBT helps minimise your trigger factors.

Good luck,

Alex
