Anxiety and tight chest.

Hi, I have been suffering with horrendous anxiety... after I came off my antidepressants.... I ended up going back on them which has help massively and I have been feeling a lot better.

However for weeks and weeks I have have this heavy sort of tight feeling in my chest and also a little bit of heart burn more frequently then normal.

I had an ECG just to make sure I am ok with my heart etc and the results came cane normal.

Doctor said it's part of a panic attack... but I have this feeling in my chest even when I feel ok and happy.

I have noticed that he can feel worse if I am thinking of something that has upset me.

Does anyone else feel like this?

Yes i have the same symtomes anxiety is such a bitch because symtomes can change from a burning sensation to a moore tighten sensation ... it is horrible... the moore i think about it the worse it gets

I get tight chest was bad for while as well coming off my AD for anxiety.. when your anxious you apparently breathe from your chest and not you stomach and it can Cause this heavy chest that along with just

Being all tense inside.. I find breathing excersises sometimes ease it a wee bit but mostly just trying to ignore as thinking to much about it keeps it there longer.. hope

You feel better a know how uncomfortable it is sometimes makes you feel your struggling to get a breath...

This will sound daft but sometimes I would put hot water bottle in my chest as it made me feel that more than the tightness.. it soothed me a wee bit and with the tightness I would worry and couldn't sleep but with the hot water bottle lieing on my chest I just concentrated on the warmth and like i say it soothed me a wee bit

Thank you heather, it's comforting knowing I'm not going crazy haha ... yeah it is uncomfortable.. I even thought it was because my boobs were too big or something haha

That's exactly how I feel, I thought I got rid of the anxiety but it's obviously still there.

Think we need to ignore

I would think my bra was to tight and take it off lol so a know what you mean.. it really is anxiety and it's so uncomfortable.. mines has finally went but a just ignored it.. done the things a said on previous post and it just went

May I ask what antidepressant you were taking?

Yes it was citalopram 20mg. I weened off over 6 months...

then came off but I got really bad anxiety.

So I've gone back on citalopram but 10mg this time, which is helping with the anxiety but my chest is still the same

That sounds a great idea, something different to focus on I'll try that

I also get this symptom, sometimes I don't even realise that I'm thinking about something that's worrying me. For me it's more the fear of my next panic attack and not being in a place where I feel safe.

I'm terrified about going to work tomorrow because it's a 45 minute drive and I'm worried I'll have a panic attack whilst in the car. I get the tight chest feeling regularly and doctors did an ECG and said it was fine.

I did this too! Thought maybe my bra was too tight so undid it but of course it didn't help haha glad I'm not the only one

Seems odd but many drugs prescribed for anxiety/depression can actually have increased anxiety/depression as a side effect. One of my first anxiety symptoms was chest pain/discomfort and like you after many tests was proved to be emotional in origin. Did you have any negative side effects from the citalopram?

Yes the first week I had hieightened anxiety and felt tired, but then it subsided and then started to feel loads better

Best thing to do is focus on the feel of the wheel and the driving that helped me when I felt bit panicky in the car.

I also take Bach remedys from Holland and barratt. They have loads of different ones, you put 2 drops of each in your water and drink it.

I have rock rose, sweet chestnut and star of Bethlehem. All of these help with panic and anxiety in different ways. They really help. I have them in my water everyday. I also drink chamomile tea which reduces anxiety by 40%.

After me saying am Getting better I've had worst night 3:19am and a still can't get to sleep for panic and sheer anxiety..tight chest butterfly's and that feeling like something bad gonna happen so horrible

I hope you got some sleep eventually... sometimes if I found I had anxiety in the night I would read a book or drink some warm sweet milk to help calm me and re-focus my attention... easier said then done I know.

Do you know what your triggers are? Any recent stressors? X

Am not sure why my body does it.. I just had slight butterflys and as day went on it got worse.. my girls are on the summer school holidays now so it's been long days trying to think what I can do with them..am still no 100 percent when going out am so much comfortable at home so that's stressing me a little..since getting not well my washing has got out of control and this really stresses me simple little things like that.. cause it makes me feel guilty and not good enough..it's terrible a don't know how to give myself a break at the minute

Got couple hours and actually don't even feel that tired.. sure it will show later when am feeling it catching up on me... a was feeling slightly dizzy and they made me anxious as well last night.. as when am stressed a can take bad vertigo and some times it can can last weeks at a time

Hi heather, have you seen your doctor? You could probably do with talking to someone? Are you having counselling?

Make a list for each day and chip away at your day.

Sometimes the girls will just have to entertain themselves, I remember I did as a kid. Have some girl time! Pamper 😁😁
