I feel like anxiety is getting the better of me at the moment. For quite a few months now I’ve been experiencing a bounding pulse for much of the day. It’s never particularly fast but it’s so strong that my body moves with it and I can see the arteries in my neck pulsing. Has anyone ever experienced this hard, but normal rhythm heart beat with anxiety? I’ve had tests on my heart that have come back normal so far but it’s making me so anxious and stressed!
Hi Rae. Yes, I have had this. It feels like your heart is jumping out of your chest and is very worrying! BUT, I , like you , have had every check imaginal and they’ve all come back normal. This is anxiety! It will not do you any harm but it feels worrying. Your heart is the strongest muscle in your body and can take an enormous about of strain without any problem at all. It was designed this way. Please be reassured that nothing bad is going to happen to you. This is a very common experience when you have anxiety. It’s not pleasant but it won’t do you any harm at all. It shows that you have a healthy functioning heart. Try not to obsess about it (but it doesn’t matter if you do), it is only anxiety. If you think about it, anxiety is the body’s protective system (fight, flight, freeze). It is there to protect you from danger. Why would this system cause you harm? It won’t. It just feels very uncomfortable in the body. The catastrophic thoughts you are having are just another symptom of anxiety (your protective system trying to find out what’s wrong when there isn’t anything wrong). There is nothing wrong with you. This is very common with anxiety and you will be okay. Bets wishes xxx
