A few months ago I went to the dentist and was told I have Bruxism (*Teeth griding brought on by anxiety and/or stress*). I had a swolen muscle in my jaw because of it so my dentist proscribed me Flexeril. After a month of using it I started to get headaches so my doctor told me to discontinue using Flexril and use Aleve.
A month into using Aleve(* 2 pills a day, 12 hours a part for over a month, The dentist told me to do this *) things got ALLOT worse. The headaches went from a pain level of 2 or 3 to a consistent 6 to 8 every day. I started having nightmares and MAJOR bouts of anxiety and depression. After being unable to get though to the dentist I just went cold turkey on the pills do to not being able to take the pain, anxiety and depression anymore.
I've been off Aleve now for well over 2 weeks (* Closer to 3 weeks now *) and the headaches are almost nonexistent but the anxiety issue is still a major problem. I've had very minor bouts with anxiety in the past but nohting like what these pills have put me though. Its almost like on a scale of 1 to 10 the usage of the Flexeril and Aleve over that two month period made it a +10. I've never had feelings or anxiety of this magnitude before these pills.
Will this eventually pass, because its been quite some time and I'm really starting to worry that something might be really wrong with me now. I would appreciate any advice or help I can get.
As far as I know Aleve wouldn't really have any effects on anything like this, I could be wrong though. Jaw pain can very well give you headaches, so you might have began grinding them harder the more anxious you were, giving yourself headaches or migraines..
Try to not use Aleve or anything unless you actually need to. Maybe ask to switch to Tylenol or ibuprofen.
For headaches, dark room and heat pack over eyes should help.. I'm curious why your dentist didn't fit a mouthguard for you to wear?

I was given a mouthguard after the dentist put me on Flexeril and then Aleve. I ended up doing some research after posting here and found out that some of the "rare" side effects of using Aleve daily is Headaches, Migraines, Depression, Heightened Anxiety and various heart issues which include a hastened heartrate at times. I didn't have any issues like I do now with Depression or Heightened Anxiety before I took Flexeril or Aleve but those issues are allot worse now.
I was wondering if these symptoms are temporary and if I have a long road ahead of me to recover from this.
If they're known effects, I would assume it is the same as getting off of a prescribed med.. Probably around two weeks, Atleast for whenever I withdraw from meds.. Just put up with it as much as you can for another week or two..
The longer you've been on them, the loger withdrawal/side effect symptoms last. If your anxiety is still horrendous, maybe talk to your doctor about trying out a med for anxiety, which would hopefully cut down on your teeth grinding.
