hi all,
im 14 yrs old ,so ive had a lot of palpitations per day, i feel like they come when im not disctracted, and mostly during night time. these palpitations have made me cry alot coz im scared if its a sudden cardiac arrest, i have anxiety, sometimes when i think about my heart or palpitations they come, it feels like it skips a beat or its going really fast, at night i get scared to sleep coz what if something happens..i went emergency about 2 weeks ago, they did ECG test and said my heart was normal, but advised me to go to the GP to do further investigation, the hospital said it might be hormonal changes or because im growing, when i went to my GP, she said it could be anxiety.. she told me to go to the cardiologist next week , and im so scared..ive never been so scared in my life, like the palpitations happen when im sitting i class, on my laptop, in bed, sometimes when i take deep breaths, i searched up on google about palpitations, they said its a sign of cardiac arrest, and anyone any age can get palpitations, it would be a pleasure for someone to comment back pls.

Dint think you had a phone qasim.
Anxiety can cause this. As you said that they come when you think about your heart and when you're not distracted is a lot of the time how anxiety works. When you think too much about something in your body your mind starts to over analyze feelings that may be normal. Also when you are actively struggling/fighting with anxiety it can come when you aren't focused on anything else. I'm sure you will be fine at the doctor. If the cardiologist says that it's just anxiety then yiu should believe them. They know what they're doing so just try to trust what your doctor says. And stop googling!!! Google comes up with worst-case scenarios and only ends up making your anxiety worse. I have seen many people's anxiety spoke after they look up their symptoms even though they are fine in the first place, myself included. Do your mind the favor of staying off of Google because whatever Google is showing you is most likely not what is going on.
And yes a therapist is a great suggestion. My anxiety started when I was your age and I went to see a therapist, it started getting better. Definetly consider talking to your parents about seeing someone.
Calm down! I have had anxiety for 10 years now (I'm 27) and I already went through that whole "my heart is weak or failing" fear lol. Now I'm not a doctor, so its a good idea to follow up with a cardiologist if that's what they suggest... BUT - I can tell you I have had those exact symptoms and freaked out, and had an EKG done and all that too and it was literally just my anxiety. It is amazing what anxiety can do to your body not only mentally but especially physically. If you read up on it, they say sooo many ER visits for heart attacks are actually just panic/anxiety attacks bc the symptoms are so similar. It's crazy. The fact you're only 14, and I'm assuming you've never had any heart issues b4, tells me that this is almost definitely just your anxiety. Especially bc you said when you're distracted you don't notice it. If something was seriously wrong with you it wouldn't go away when you are distracted, it would be there all the time and it would get worse over time. B4 my EKG test, I was having chest pains so severe it hurt to laugh, my left arm felt numb and my heart would race - I felt like i could literally hear it beating it was such a fast and heavy heartbeat. I freaked out that i was having heart issues, got the EKG done and they told me I was completely fine, heart was normal and it was most likely just my anxiety. After I heard that, all of my symptoms went away haha. It really is crazy what your mind can do.
It could be stress, anxiety. It may not be heart which the ECG will pick up. Are you active? think about diet, these all play a part in health. Genetics and family history may help you to figure out what is happening, there is not enough information to give a proper diagnosis but the ECG should rule out some possibilities. The more you worry the more pressure you place on your heart so try to stay calm and relaxed, listen to music, go for a easy walk, read a book or talk with a family member. Good luck.
