Hello, I am a 17 (almost 18!) year old female, I've had SAD for almost 8 years now, but during the past 3~ years I've been experiencing chest pains mainly on my left side, but ocassionally my right side too. I have been to the doctor about this, they gave me a blood test and an x-ray which both came up clear, I also have athsma but it is well-controlled and has been most of my life.
However, I find that my chest pain can flare up randomly, whether I'm in an anxious situation or not, and it has prevented me from finishing a gym session recently which has knocked my confidence in going to the gym, the pain is worse when I breathe in and out too harshly, and I have to be careful when it flares up or I convince myself there's something wrong with my heart.
So, here's my question; does anyone else find that their chest pains are sporadic like mine? It seems there is no rhyme or reason for it at all...
Should I go to the doctor again? Every time I've seen someone about it they've said it must just be my anxiety, but even when I'm not anxious it happens to me...
Hello! I'm 23 and similar to yourself, mine started when i was 21. I get chest pains randomly, but also when I'm in the gym and or going for a run sometimes, it could be because of GERD which happens with anxiety sometimes, it could be because your chest wall muscle is inflammed/irratated, i'm sure not sure what it is.
I've had like 5 ECG's, 2 stress ECG's, a 72 hour ECG and an echocardiogram all on my heart, everything has come back normal. It's just something i have to ignore now theres not many tests they can do, not on somebody my age anyway. If i was you i'd maybe go back to the doctors just to be safe? maybe get an ECG done or something.
Thanks for the reply,
I think I will end up going back to the doctor's at some point this year, probably in the summer as that's usually when it's at its worst.
I don't think they will give me any other tests than x-ray or blood tests because of my age, with my athsma and anxiety they have plenty to blame the pain on rather than wasting time with other tests!
Good to know at least I'm not the only one experiencing this
Yeah i struggled for them to get more tests done on me too because of my age but eventually they gave in haha. If yours is worse in the summer though i very much doubt its heart problems, if anything heart problems are worse in the winter because of the coldness. Could it be your athsma playing up more in the summer because of the amount of pollen in the air in the summer? (sorry i bet i sound like your doctor! haha)
I've never had any problems with pollen or hayfever or anything like that before, but I suppose it could be the humidity that gives me problems.. But who knows! I'll still go back to the doctor anyway just to make sure.
