I have previously been on citalopram for anxiety in the past but came off about 6 months ago.
I thought I was doing reasonably well considering I had been panic attack free since coming off. Recently I have been suffering what people close to me are describing as panic attacks again.
The physical symptoms are horrendus; shaking, nausea, dizzyness, feeling faint, blurred vision.
I am worried that these are being caused by an underlying issue but am worried about going to the doctors because they may want me to go back onto the tablets again which made me comepletely emotionless.
These attacks have no trigger and feel to be getting out of control to the point where I am having them every day.
Please help, has anyone else experienced anything similar?
Hi Jade,
I've previously been on citalopram at 20mg and didn't get on with them as I was still getting anxiety and the symptoms exactly like yours and couldn't function! I gave them a good try for about 4-5 months and then my dr put me on escitalopram first at 5mg then 10 and now 15mg and I am doing loads better! Perhaps suggest them to your doctor!hope you feel better soon x
Hi Susan,
Thank you for replying. I am reluctant to go back on tablets because I turn into an emotionless zombie. I have previously tried cognitive behavioural therapy too.
I am glad other people have experienced similar symptoms.
Panic attacks do not appear to have actual triigers. They can feed off the senses so anything that overloads the senses can trigger one. Loud noises, bright lights, a walk down a crowded street..anything. You are preprogrammed for them. The meds worked but being a zombie is no fun. Have you tried yoga? Reiki? Meditation, eft, cbt, therapy, eating healthy with regukar exercise, or just meds? Chamomile tea is heloful too.
I felt a bit zombie like and badly fatigued but once I got used to the escitalopram I feel more like myself and have been on these since June! I have had ups and downs but I'm getting there! Other than the symptoms I also got depressed, lost confidence but that's when I realised I needed help! I know till you get used to these tablets it's tough but I said to myself to stick it out to get my life back! And I also think if I was told I needed tablets for say blood pressure etc I wouldn't think twice about taking them!
If you try meds again just take one day at a time and baby steps!
I think I will need to try something soon as I am starting to feel very low. I may give the tablets another go.
Thank you
Good luck and take care, remember you're not alone x
Hi lisa,
I can have panic attacks whilst I am sitting quietly at home or when I am driving for example.
I have tried CBT but didn't find it very useful as when I am having a panic attack I find it very difficult to focus on anything other than the physical symptoms. I eat healthy and do regular exercise but always have done.
I will look into other things that you have meantioned.
Thank you
Hapoenes to all of us. Its very annoying, definitely ruins the day too, It just has to do with sensory overload. Our fight or flight center is messed up. Keep looking at different things to self calm. Theres something for everyone you just have to find what resonates with you.
