Hi. I feel a little bit stupid coming on here with this. I have always been a worrier and let things play on my mind. This has really progressed since I have had my first child 3 years ago. I mainly worry about health issues but also worry about lots of other factors majority of which I know are completely irrational. I have never been to the doctor about this as I don’t think I could get it out. My partner always says you should speak to someone as I think she knows I have this problem even though I always brush her off and say it is nothing. I have never really told anyone of these issues and sometimes I just sit and cry because I don’t know what to do.
Well things have been getting worse these past few months and has now started to effect my sleep (which has never been a problem) and work. Concentrations levels are really low and I have become very irritable which has been effecting other people. I wish I could just stop worrying about things but it seems like it is constant.
This weeks example of this is that we have had a drain back up which I though was just a rain water drain. I stupidly touched it with my bare hand and picked up some paper. The drains had backed up into this. I noticed I had a small cut on my hand and now I cant stop thinking I have contracted hepatitis B from it, I have hardly slept the past two nights because of this. I cant get it out of my head.
I don’t know what to do or who to turn to because I just feel ridiculous feeling this way.
please don’t feel ridiculous about this. This is not your fault! Anxiety, health anxiety, are no different than somebody having diabetes or a sprained ankle or any other health condition. Anxiety affects the mind it’s just another type of health condition. very often it is inherited and other times it’s a result of what happens in life. But there is definitely a hereditary component in the DNA.how are you got it is not as important as what you do about it.
I agree with your partner in that one of the best things you can do is talk to a counselor who can help you manage this better so you can feel better. my anxiety started as a child for no apparent reason.
So I know that for a fact if you don’t get some support with this now, it will continue. Mine continued and basically anxiety and fear ran my life for the next 30 years. it was awful.
i Had to put in practice what a counselor taught me and I had to be determined to feel better!
I learned how to keep negative thoughts out of my mind. They will always try to get in but it’s what you do about that that’s important. The more you allow the negative thoughts the more they plant in your brain and then your thoughts always automatically go to the negative.
you don’t have to feel miserable. you don’t have to be overthinking everything. Most of what we think with anxiety is not based on reality or fact. Don’t believe everything you think!
there are also some good talks on anxiety management on YouTube. There’s also a great book called finding quiet. That helped me a lot. I do hope you feel better soon. Take one day at a time. And one other thing I learned is stay out of your head!
