ANXIETY IS NOT THE SAME AS BEING STRESSED OUT...IT IS A REAL DISEASE!!!

I have been a member here for quite a while now, I respond to those who I think might benefit from my experiences with 20+ years of living with anxiety and panic attacks. I don't mind opposing views as far as medication or courses of treatment go but I hate seeing comments from people that obviously don't have anxiety or don't know what they are talking about. It is a real disease, plenty of medical evidence to back it up out there. All medication is NOT evil...will not cause you to be an addict, doesn't make you weak or a lesser human if you decide to take it. Basically treating other people like crap and putting them and their choices down isn't helpful. Most of these people on here are looking for help, things that may have helped other members, that type of thing. But telling someone to stop taking their meds or telling them to just stop having anxiety is garbage. Most of you are NOT doctors, not even close. Just because you think meds are a problem doesn't mean they are, and if you don't want to take them then don't. Don't come on here and attack someone who doesn't share in your opinion, they definitely don't need it. Telling someone it isn't real or it is all in their head and they can cure themselves while chastising their choices in treatment is unacceptable!!! You aren't helping. Now if you have found something wonderful that worked for you as an alternative to conventional treatments, feel free to share it, just don't be an ass about it and don't put someone else down or try to make them feel bad for the choices they make in their treatment choices. You are realistically just here to be a bully or a troll or whatever you want to call it and the people who are here at the end of their ropes looking for answers don't need your s**t!!! Sorry but I had to put this out there because I've seen it about 20 times this morning in the comments on some of the discussions and it makes me sick. We can't just get over it, it isn't all in our head, and if drinking some chamomile tea cured it then Celestial Seasonings would be in every medical journal from now until the end of time. Stop telling people their choices are wrong because they aren't the same as yours, stop trying to make people feel bad, just stop. If you can't offer your opinions or suggestions in a kind and helpful manner, keep them to yourselves.

Too right 👌 I was told all my life by my family to "just get over it" "stop worrying there's nothing you can do to change it"

It's never that simple, I'm now taking sertraline 100mg atm, really hopeful that I will see a good improvement with my worrying 😀

Well said racheld . Can't stand it when people tell you doctors and madication are useless. This may terrify people who have anxiety and put them off seeking medical help which may help. Some doctors are great and have great knowledge in the mental health field. Some people need meds, if taken responsibly and can be very beneficial alongside therapy etc. Please people , don't dictate. If you have had a bad experience by all means share it but it would be more helpful to say ' in your experience ' what worked and what didn't, but others have great results. We are all different. Would hate people to be put off seeking help because of somebody's bad experience when there are many more success stories out there. Thanks to all the people here sharing what worked for them and not putting the fear of god into others. 😊❤️

I'm new and I haven't noticed what you have mentioned, but I'll add that people with diabetes take meds, heart patients take meds and anxiety is a real health issue that can be lessened (or cured) by taking meds.

I have had anxiety from the age of 18 l am now 56 years old.Now l have to say if drugs cured anxiety l would certainly be cured by now.lt certainly is a crippling disorder however drugs on their own are not to be relied on as they just mask the anxiety they do not cure it.l have never or will never tell anyone to not take medication they are a very useful tool but they also need to take action themselves and work towards managing the anxiety symptoms. There definitely a lot more information out there about the best treatment for anxiety disorders and people really need to push to get the treatment they need .

I didn't take meds for this until about age 50. I sure wish that I had because depression & excess anxiety interfered with my life. My fear is failure, so I worked twice as hard on my jobs. I have always been promoted, but I could have done more without these hideous, illogical sensors.

I've also worked hard to make sure my kids were happy and able to support themselves. Happy, self-reliant kids was how I judged myself. Now they are self-reliant, they are content and they have awesome spouses, but I still have to find something new  to worry about?? I do hope I can spend my final years without this.

Well Donna l hope you do.l have been on antidepressants since I was 29 and diazepam for 10 years. The diazepam has unfortunately started to make the anxiety worse so l am tapering off it with a lot of difficulty.l hope when I get off my anxiety will settle down again and I will try to accept it and stop fearing the symptoms which l find the hardest thing of all.Best wishes to you.
