I have been a sufferer of anxiety for years. Recently I had a scope and it scraped my throat causing symptoms. The original symptom has subsided mostly but took several months. Now I am hyper focused on my throat and feel every little off thing. I now everyday am experiencing fatigued jaw and tongue. I talk or eat they both feel very tired. I sometimes have to let my jaw hang open to relieve the fatigue. My question. Is it possible I am causing this myself by hyper focusing on it? Or can I just be thinking about it so much that I'm making a very little thing into a big thing? Such as me thinking about it has created it. I can't seem to just live my life I am always looking on google for answers. And of course als popped up. Thanks for any input.
When you are hyperfocused on a certain part of your body, especially for a longer period of time, your brain sends near-constant stress response signals to that part of the body, which include increased adrenaline, and muscles tensing. Going on for any duration, this can cause you to develop physical symptoms in that area, such as fatigue, soreness, etc.
I have been through this with pretty much every area of my body recently, including the throat and jaw. I have days where if I talk too much, my jaw begins to feel tired and sore. I have days where for hours at a time get this constant tight throat feeling, which is very unnerving.
From my understanding, it's all anxiety taking its toll on the body.
Just so you know, Ive done way too much research on ALS the past month. With ALS you would not be able to swallow and the initial symptom is slurred speech that does NOT GO AWAY. It doesn't cause muscles to get tired or fatigued after a while; it causes them to die. So please don't worry about ALS because it can be all consuming when you do.
Cheers!
I'm hoping it is just anxiety. My tongue gets very tired when even talking for a few minutes. So really a constant tired tongue can be just anxiety. It's been tired for weeks.
So it can cause tongue fatigue from just talking?
Yes anxiety can affect ANY muscle in the body, and the tongue is indeed a muscle. I have read of others having this exact issue!
Thank you for your response.
