been given diazepam for some time. Increasing as time goes by. Dr suggested 80mg propanolol slow release but find after taking it it causes total, insomnia, end up taking diazepam after hours of no sleep. Also find morning nausea. Dont know what to do but it doesnt seem to work.
Hi Ann,
I was on Diazepam also Propanolol and found Diazepam made me relaxed and often sleepy and Propanolol also relaxed me.
Side effects of meds can sometimes outweigh benefits and the list of contra indicators on the directions is often huge.
Ask your doc if an alternative to Propanolol may be better for you re sleep.
Another problem with meds can be that you have to take another med to cancel out the side effects of an existing med eg sleeping tablet.
Try and relax before bed, no social media or computer stuff, no caffiene etc and only go to bed when you are really tired.
Also it may help to look at when you take your meds eg am / pm .
All the best
Yes, i think the advice of taking 80mg propanolol at 11pm by gp wasnt right. Timing and dosage may be the problem here. Meanwhile the diazepam is still required for anxiety. My hubby takes a different beta blocker and has no problem with sleep but then he doesnt have depression and anxiety. So a different drug may also be an answer. Did you get off diazepam?
Hi Ann,
I never had any problems with 5mg Diazepam, it worked the fastest, it made me feel the best, it halted my panic attacks in about 20 mins and I had no problem getting off it.
My doc said the trick with Diazepam was not to let your body get used to it otherwise it was not as effective.
Eg take it for a week/ couple of weeks then have a short break.
