hi everyone this is kinda long
So i am having really bad anxiety/panic attacks over a ruptured ear drum. Or thats what the urgent car doctor said it was.
For the past couple of weeks ive been experiencing this “fluttering” sensation in my ear. i dont know if its a fluttering or a quick throb or a twitch. The feeling is a little of each of those words. Anyway today it was happening more frequently and my Mind jumped to me losing my hearing. So I went to the urgent care he checked in my ear with that tool that they have and the right ear look great and the left ear I don’t know how described it but the dx was ruptured ear drum. No I don’t feel any pain there hasn’t been any discharge there’s not really any ringing just that weird fluttering/pulsing/slight throbs sensation. I’ve obviously researched on Dr. Google of what these possible things could be and it led me to the most horrible-ist diagnoses so in my head I don’t believe it’s a ruptured eardrum I believe it’s more like an idiot but I know it’s my anxiety making me to jump to conclusions, like what if it’s a brain tumor or what if something is wrong with her artery or something weird.. But if it is a ruptured eardrum I am also jumping to conclusions on what if it never heals, what if I have to go through surgery, what if I lose my hearing forever and it’s scaring me and I honestly can’t stop crying about it. The physician assistant that I saw gave me eardrops to use and when I asked him if he can turn into something more serious he just said if it doesn’t heal in two weeks follow up with the ENT which even scares me more.
sorry you were so scared but I think you are definitely overthinking this. do you remember anything that you did that could have caused your eardrum to rupture?
First of all, stay off of Google! It has nothing to do with your individual situation. You will scare yourself for no reason. The physician assistant must have seen that the eardrum was ruptured. They tell every patient that if something doesn’t get better to follow up with your doctor. They have to say that to everyone.
it’s not unusual to have the weird fluttering and throbbing sensation when you have a ruptured eardrum. what type of drops did he give you?
also, Cut out all of the what if thinking. you will drive yourself crazy for no reason. Physician assistants have a lot of education in the actually learn as much as a regular doctor.and of course if it doesn’t get any better in a couple weeks follow up with the ENT. Sometimes they just change medication. You’re going to end up seeing that doctor anyway because they have to make sure that it healed properly. this is nothing to panic about but I know that anxiety puts fear into people. You have to realize that. Tell yourself that anxiety is just creating negative thoughts and you will not allow that to make you feel fearful. you will heal up and feel a lot better soon. Take care
thank you so much for replying <3 i really appreciate that you took time out to read my long dragged on msg. The PA gave me ear drops: Ofloxacin (im based in the US sonidk if rx names are different) and i know i have to stop with the what ifs, but my mind goes to prepare for the worse and not just focus on whats actually happening now
sometimes its crippling that my anxiety makes me think like this
