I realise I am my own worst enemy when it comes to my anxiety when it comes to smoking as I've stopped in the past and felt like a new man however I always end up back on them , is anyone else a heavy smoker in the same situation
Hi Derek
Yes I was a heavy smoker for 40 years but new it was killing my lungs! For the past ten months I have been using the electronic cigarette only. This has made me feel so much better. Eg still smoking but without the tars and chemicals. Ideally I want to stop this too but it's been my saviour whilst depressed. Why don't you try e-cig as a stepping stone to stopping.
That way you still feel like your smoking and after a couple of days you will get use to not lighting up!
This option is the only one that worked for me prior to this I tried everything on the market plus hypnosis. ..none of it worked.
Give it a go!

Hi I am still smoking even after a diagnosis of (mild) copd. I have tried everything too to give them up and have now bought an e-cig. The trick now is to get myself off ciggies and on to them. This is a work in progress
I did manage to give up for 3 1/2 months once and felt wonderful. My terrible cough went and my skin turned pink instead of the drawn grey look of the smoker. My best feeling was when a street person asked me for a 'fag'. I looked him straight in the eye and said (after a deep breath) 'Sorry I don't smoke'. Well the ticker tape and bells all went off and I felt on top of the world. Then I got very stressed and ended up back on them
There is a very good quitting site called 'Quit' on Health Unlocked. Google it. I am on there and they all understand and offer incredible help and support. Good luck - you can do it. Bev x
I found it a great help when I joined a stop smoking forum. I took zyban before quitting and read the Alan Carr book avidly, then I chose my day and stopped. I didn't use any nicotine replacements or anything, just the support of the forum and the book. That was over 10 years ago and I still have not had even one puff. Sometimes I get the cravings when I am particularly stressed or depressed, but I know that "one puff" and I would be back where I was......struggling with COPD and slowly killing myself.
We are all different and you have to find the way that is right for you. Don't use your depression as an excuse.....it does nothing to help what is causing your depression....in fact it does the opposite.
I wish you all the luck in the world. Quitting was the hardest thing I have done in my life, I had smoked for over 30 years, but it was also the best thing I have done.
I hope you make it.
Pat
Thanks for the comments guys , I have managed in the past to quit but after 3 months I fail and end up back on them , I've champix and other stop smoking things even the ecig which I stopped with the last time . The stupid thing is I no what I need to do but I feel 60/40 , 60 meaning I want to smoke
Lol I can relate to what you are saying. You need to get to the point where the odds are the other way round! Maybe set a target for new years day. That gives you plenty of time to plan and get your ming set. I tried many many many times and failed. But the last time it worked...don't give up trying xx
Thanks Lorraine don't think I'm been nasty by saying this but I'm not really a big believer of newyears resolution and stop tober I believe if you want to do it you'll do it x
Hi Derek
You have hit the nail in the head. You will 100% do it when your really ready to. I use to hate stoptober and in fact I think I use to smoke more that day out of principal lol!
Good luck on your next attempt xx
Hahahaha thanks Lorraine it's a real must at some point as I no I'll feel better for it and sure I will with that support from people like yourselves x
