My anxiety symptoms have gone through the roof and not sure why! Having real problems with dissociation anyone know of anything that helps?
to be honest, finding the reason and dealing with the root anxiety are really the only thing to help long term. in the short term, try to accept it as just another symptom fighting against it absolutly will not ever work
Hi kerry are you always thinking about it cuz u will never get rid of your symptoms if you do.... You need to not pay any attention to it just ignore it that's what I do and a lot of mine have gone x
Hi thank you I am having Cbt and on meds but not really helping so far!
I have health anxiety so it's really really hard for me to accept things for what they are and I find I do concentrate on them lots
i have it too, and i have health anxiety, ii know its really hard. my advice is to ditch cbt, and ask for actual talking therapy. cbt really isnt very affective
Hi Kerry,
Sorry to hear you are feeling so bad. What do you usually do to help?
There are lots of techniques for coping, and sometimes you need to try a few before finding what works for you.
Have you tried doing a thought log? Basically you write down all of the thoughts and feelings you are having, as well as any phsical symptoms and what it is making you do (like staying in/avoiding social contact for example). Sometimes just the physical act of getting it down can help. You can also take it a step further, and write down some "alternative thoughts" that are calmer/more rational- even if you dont fully believe them, just writing them down can help.
Also you could try guided relaxation exercises- just search google for them. Mark williams, "mindfulness of body and breath" is a good starting point, but there are loads of different styles out there.
Is there someone you trust and feel you can talk to? Sometimes this can be really calming/reassuring. If not, you could try calling Samaritans (116 123 from any phone) as just talking through things can help.
Or just getting up and doing some exercise- star jumps until you are completely out of breath and tired- sometimes this can "re-set" everything.
Then maybe think about seeing your GP over the coming days, to talk about a long term plan for managing your anxiety?
Hope that helps.
I know dissociation/ Derealization all too well. You have to accept the symptoms as meaningless before they will go away. I'm working on this right now.
Hi Kerry, so sorry to hear this. I too have Anxiety. Ok do you have a health food shop near to you. They have lots of things for Anxiety. Rescue remedy is good . Kalms as well .
