Hi im Amy, 23.
I recently have been suffering with symptoms which i am not sure are 100% related to anxiety. I find myself short of breath, really nervous and scared of going to sleep. I often twitch whilst drifting off, my legs and hands mainly. It has gotten to the point where i feel i have to have an alcoholic drink in the evening to prompt me to sleep, surely this isnt right? I am currently on Propanolol and have been for a few weeks due to headaches, and apparently they are supposed to help anxiety too. I feel very nervous about sleeping, paranoid that my heart will give up on me due to beating so fast or something will happen with my head and headaches.
I would appreciate any help or advice as its not healthy nor normal to be drinking at 23 to the extent i do, to simply be able to sleep.
Thanks in advance.
Amy-Lee.
Hi Amy,
From doing some research into this drug I have found that your side effect of not being able to drift off to sleep well matches up. It is also used to help with cardiovascular conditions such as Angina, Hypertension and to help prevent heart attacks.
I noticed you said you have been wanting to drink alcohol, you must not drink alcohol with this medication as it can interfere with your blood sugar levels and make you feel, well not good! So avoid that like the plague.
With regards to the twitching, I think you should go back to your GP about this because this medication (like I said above) can intefere with your blood sugars and the twitching can indicate something maybe not quite right, this medication may just not agree with you 100%. This particular medication you have to be slowly taken off of, so don't stop taking it.
I hope that helps a bit... :-)
Oh and because you're having these side effects it's probably making you feel anxious! Which could explain the racing heart etc. Try and do something relaxing before bed like have a bath, a hot drink, read a book? x
You absolutely need to discuss this with your GP.
