Hi all! I've been put on 10mg of citalppram for about 3 weeks and the doctor has put it up to 20mg I was to scared as the side effects were awful so decided to just take 15mg. I have now for 4 days. My anxiety has shot through the roof. And hoping it will pass but it makes you feel like your loosing your marbles is anyone else having this as its really getting on my nerves now.
I'm due to go up to 20mg after my holiday. I was thinking of doing 15mg to help with the side effects. One got anxiety all the time I'm just worried about the feeling sick really. Last time I tried I gave up after 2 days, but know u need to do it this time. Have you noticed any other changes?
I was kind of calm after 2 weeks on 10mg but the effects were really bad, I did have the odd day feeling of anxiety. But this week is really crap, I'm trying to stay positive but it's really hard as my daughters under going chemotherapy so it's really difficult time.
Also my niece said she didn't get any side effects from 10 to 20mg but as for looking at other blogs everyone is different.
Oh dear I'm really sorry to hear that. I'm sure the citalopram will help after a while they did for me last year.
How would you describe anxiety??
Hey Polly, I was on sertroline for 3 months, then went to Wellbutrin, that was totally horrible. Only on 2 weeks, then cit. for 4 months, I had no problems going on it, the side effects that I hate r weight gain and sex is just to please by partner, no feeling for me in that department. I'm going off it! I went to a naturopath and gunna give that a try, waiting for my stuff to come, but looking forward on getting healthy inside and out!! Good luck🌻
I would describe it as tension in my neck, head, jaw very panicky can sit still. Heart pounding now again. Hope it goes
That's how I felt on Wellbutrin, I was afraid of having a heart attack. And all the tension in neck, etc. Plus the sweats at night and couldn't sleep! That's y I went off of it. That can't be good for a person!
It's just absolutely crap, I'm trying to keep it together for everyone but sometimes you feel like your going mad

I was wondering the reason why the doc increase the dose. It seems it is a common practice, but what make the doc to dicide the dose. Is it based on your reaction or just recommended by the drug company?
Personally, I started with 10 mg and feels too much. So reduce the dose to 5 mg. After 5 weeks on 5 mg, I feel great. No more sides effect, mood is great, no more anxiety. My point is everyone react differently to the med. What dose to use should be based on what your body need. I would discuss this with the doc.
Yeah I think I will I did feel a lot calmer on 10mg but had the odd day that I could deal with it yano. It was 20mg but Ive been taking 15mg, I can't imagine how I would feel on 20mg. Yes Drs tomorrow
I have a weakness in my neck also
Polly, the body is adjusting to the meds there will be side effects so now that you know that accept there will be a little anxiety and other weird feelings but rest assure ignore your brain and trust that you are on your way to recovery I take 20mg a day and had quite a few side effects however 2 weeks later they are wearing off so I'm hopeful take care my friend best of luck to you.
️️Thankyou for all ur replies has made me feel a lot better will keep you posted 😊
Hi Polly,
What you are experiencing is quite the norm for Cita.
I didn't think I actually had anxiety, but I did and Cita causes more to be able to treat it! Weird to begin. As you are being treated primarily for anxiety you must be experiencing hightened levels than the rest of us. We're here to support you though (as you have seen so far by the response to your post) and there are some who can very much relate to your situation. Because of this, help and advise will be most useful for you to get through this.
One thing I wouldn't recomend is adjusting your dosage unless the Doctor says otherwise. You will get side effects whatever dose, but these will wear off, eventually, you very well may get increased side effects with each increase - I did. I started on 10mg back in beginning of December and went up 10mg over the following 3 months and levelled at 40mg in March. Each time I had an increase, but as we know these can be worse or less than other peoples, the level and intensity can be worse or less than others too. It got to me too, but I gradually accepted the inevitable and went with the flow.
The good thing is you found the forum and there are plenty nice people in the 'Cita Club' that'll reach out any time, for any reason (even just for a chat) to advise, hold your hand or give you a hug!
Any thing you are worried about (and believe me, I got mild paranoia about health issues until me Doctor sent me for a healthy man check up etc.,) however small or insignificant come here and post. Whatever happens try and seek out the positive in everything, like here for example - a very good positive start to your journey!
So, "Welcome to the Club!"
Kepp posting it will help with your recovery and you can also help others!
Best Regards,
David
️️Thankyou for your message. Decided to take the plunge and go with the 20mg instead of 15mg the Dr has prescribed. Sick of feeling like this fuzzy head and contant anxiety All day! Like you said I'm going to get the side effects either way
We know, it's a bummer! I never would have guessed I would be in this position ever, but here I am. When I accepted the fact I need help I was beaten a mere shadow of the man I used to be. I was frightened about taking the med, but I realised I had no option if I wanted to get better! The first 3 months were pretty bad (saying that you have to remember not every one takes this long and some take even longer - just the luck of the draw I guess!) and I didn't like what I went through, but now over 6 months down the line and at 40mg my Doctor may start to reduce me in two weeks when I see her next.
I still get the odd downer, but it doesn't last too long these days as I have put that which made me ill in the first place (my job) way behind me. It will take at least 4 months to come off and then I may not completely come off, who knows.
What I do know is that the help I had here helped save me and now I want to help others like you in return. One day, you'll feel and do the same!
However, at the moment you just want to curl up and hope it all goes away! It will.
Take care,
David
For me David, it was simple; it saved my life. What I was contemplating was not good and I was at the stage of detailed plans. A wonderful GP somehow guessed that CIT would help made a fantastic guess. He even guessed that I would be averse to taking it by presenting it thus: "If I proscribed an anti depressant, would you take it?" It was a long shot but I somehow decided to try it. Miraculous results and I thanked him profusely. I do have some side effects but all I can say is to monitor them. I even had some friends over while I drank some beers with them and my worst side effect was complete blackouts. By doing it with friends who were aware, I was able to figure out what NOT to do. A similar approach, with the help of friends, might be advisable. Good luck
In a post yesterday you said u had weakness in your neck, does it hurt or it's just weak? My neck hurts, stiff and if someone would grab my shoulders and give me a little shake it dam near put me to my knees! I was on another med. that I was on, but now off of that and still the neck issue! Any in put would be appreciated! Thanks, Beth
