How do I know if I have anxiety ? I am in my 7th year of recovery from drugs and alcohol and have tried to manage my head and what it does to me on my own as I didnt want to take medication after the length of time I had been dependent on substances to manage my head and feelings - I have made and cancelled many GP appts but I am now feeling desperate as I live in a constant state of fear and worry and obsess on things that make me feel bad to the point I cant eat or leave the house at times. Can medication help me ?
Meditation can help to a certain degree, but it should be combined with therapy.
They each have their own important unique role in your full recovery.
Medication won't by itself keep you from all your worries and obsessions. That's where therapy comes in to play.
You have anxiety when you have fear, worry, obsession, a general uneasy feeling where you don't have peace of mind.
Its hard to overcome alone and you need the support of a professional who sees this on a daily basis and has the tools to help you manage your anxiety.
Feel better soon and CONGRATULATIONS on your 7th year of recovery!!
You are on the right path, just need some more direction and support for Anxiety.

You need help so you go to your GP and ask for some support and understanding. Make your appointment, draw up a list of what you need to discuss, that will make it easier and faster to get more assistance and not forget anything. Also you could ask for two appointments together, one to run straight after the first on the same day.
If you have been addicted to medication or street drugs you may need help to get over your Anxiety/Depression.
Remember your GP is in partnership with you in dealing with your health concerns, make that appointment and attend !!!!!!. If you keep breaking appointments your Surgery may remove you from their List

Thank you. I've lived like this for years always expecting things to get better - I put everything down to adjusting to life without drugs & alcohol but I now realise its more than that thanks to you replying - I actually thought id be told to stop being stupid that there's nothing wrong with me. Im so glad I posted on here im going to make an appointment and attend it. I've already started writing a list of things.

Hi Joanne , really feel for you. Glad you're reaching out for advice . I'm in my 13 th yr of recovery from alcohol. I used alcohol as I was so anxious and it seemed to calm me, before long everything ended in an even bigger mess. Anxiety and addicted to alcohol. Glad you're being sensible and asking about meds after having addiction in past. Explain your concerns to your gp, be brutally honest. I was given counciling and my gp monitored meds .I was given meds as they helped to get me to push forward and get help with my anxiety, if you have a good gp they will listen and work out a plan for you. Keep reading here, people have many tips on coping with anxiety and most of all people know how you feel and hopefully can reasure you❤️
Thank you Bob I will make an appointment and attend it - Ive lived like this for years and thanks to you and the lady above replying to my post I now know that I need to go to the GP - Ive just got so used to always feeling scared and worried that I wasn't sure if it was normal or not.
Thank you
Are you human? Then you have anxiety. It's just level of anxiety that is the problem. We all have worries. Get depressed. It's just when our bodies and brains can't take anymore the body starts showing signs. I can not tell you if you are going through withdrawals or if you are suffering from anxiety. Stay on the forum, read the symptoms others are describing and compare to how you are feeling. Talk to your doctor. Being a recovering addict the treatment may be different as you will probably not want the narcotics they prescribe for some of the symptoms the rest of us have, if you have them. So best bet is to talk with therapist and doctor and get to the bottom of your particular circumstance.
