Hi, I was diagnosed with an underactive thryroid about 10 years ago and ended up having radioactive iodine and am on thyroxine for life.
Unfortunately I still have a terrible time and my levels seem to go up and down frequently and I lose my hair and just keep putting on weight. Would love to talk to anyone with similar experiences - desperate to find out how I can control it better (and lose weight!!!)
thanks
Stardie
Hi,
do your self a favour and check the brand of tablet your taking, see my article. \"good old levothyroxine\".
I have had a thyroid problem for 14 years, being tested weekly or monthly due to it going up and down. Weight also goes up and down and no I am not over eating and yes I am taking the tablets, so your not alone with your problem, there is many of us in the same boat but no one seems to lisson. It always seems to be something we are doing, not the condition we have. I have major problem with dry skin ( and I mean major), loss of sleep, memory is as much use as a chocolate fireguard, snappy, etc.,. I have just start slimmers world, u never no it may help. But do check the brand your taking and keep an eye on which brand your getting when you fill your prescription.
good luck
Thank you for replying. I will definitely take a look. Am seeing consultant in a few days time so will make him listen!! Have been told about a new drug but havent found the name of it yet
thanks
hi sardie, I also have no thyroid. I am hypo. I have been in very severe bad health for 12 yrs. now. each blood work shows i'm hypo or hyper. I began using armour and still levels are never normal. fatigue is awful. brain fog is extreme. confused all the time. I just started looking on this forum a couple wks ago and sadly it seems no one has an answer.
me again, I also went to mayo clinic in fl. all they did was bloodwork and told me I was depressed. I came home and saw different dr and started anti-depressants. tried 3 different drs. and many anti-presents.had bad side affects. they were not the answer.
Hi
I was eventually diagnosed with hypothyroidism in 1995 after it had progressed to Myxoedema, I piled on the weight, my hair fell out, my skin was flaking off, my brain was addled and I lost the use of both hands for 7 months. I was told by my GP that I would never lose the weight!
Having tried in vain for many years to lose weight I came across a book called The Fast Metabolism Diet by Haylie Pomroy (approx £8 from Amazon). The diet is like no other I have ever tried and means eating three main meals and two snacks a day (recipes included in the book). You eat all food groups in a specific way and she explains what works and why it works.
I went from size 24 to size 12 in 5 months and lost 4 stones in weight. This has changed my life in so many ways. People don't recognise me and have asked me how I did it so I have told them about the book. I have people ringing me to tell me how thrilled they are with the results. The book is fascinating reading as Haylie Pomroy is animal trained and medical trained and speaks such sense. The great thing too is that I have maintained the weight loss even though I am not on the diet now but still follow the principals.
It certainly worked for me so I am pleased to pass this on to you and hope it does for you too. Wishing you well. Mandy
