Hi my 4 year old daughter has just been diagnosed with bronchiectasis. Any information will be helpful thanks
Hi Sarah,
I didn't know you could be diagnosed at that age?
Did she have a CT scan?
Has she seen a physio yet?
You can have mild, moderate, severe.
itvis different for everyone.
As an adult I do breathing exercises sometimes everyday, sometimes every two days. This is to clear the lungs.
I find swimming is very good for me.
I don't eat a lot of dairy produce, milk, eggs, cheese make my cough worse.
has she seen a physio yet?

Hi, yes she has had an X-ray then a ct scan. She has been referred to a respiratory paediatrian, just waiting for appointment. So haven't seen a physio yet.
Ok, good luck with appointment.
Do keep up with new treatments coming down the line like
Stem Cells
A lady on this site has had a Stem Cell transplant (using her own cells from her nose.)
She says it will be a free MK this before she knows if it has improved her condition.
Typo:
should read - 'a few months'
It must be very worrying for you Sarah, but the positive thing side of this is that your child has been diagnosed and help is there. There was an article on the Lung Scociety website about a man in his 20's and he had bx as a child, he is now a brilliant cyclist. Of course, it's all about feeling your way as to what works with your youngster, whether it be diet, exercise, treatment. Help is out there and I do hope you get some feedback from this forum that will be helpful.
Yes, agree with Madeleine's comment.
i should have said many people do lead a normal life with Bx.

Sarah, I was just going to say that more information is needed to give a good answer when I noticed that Haydon (below) has asked you already.
Depending on where you are too - how was she diagnosed? did she have pneumonia prior to that? what initiated the BX, did a Pulmonologist dx it?
I'll mention this here as it might help and it could give someone else an idea also:: when I had an infectious disease years ago I got a letter from the health department in the town where I live; I was nervous about that and I called them to see if I was supposed to do something but apparently it was just an informative letter to let ME know that they knew I had an inf. disease. BUT the exciting thing about the phone call was that they asked me if I wanted a referral or a name of a specialist for that disease and that's how I ended up going to a teaching hospital and got the help I needed for my problem.
So I was thinking you could call your health dept. locally and just ask - that is if you don't already have a Pediatric Pulmonologist who knows a lot about BX in children.
