Hi again realising this is a wonderful place I feel so ignorant and had pain 3 years now! no diagnosis and told i may need hip in years to come? that was a year ago
just had an injection to indicate where pain is from, now after reading threads concerned Ive got bad corrossion whatever? x ray says mild OA but not told anything else. go in 3 months to see specalist its been so sore a while now and feels like i cant put left foot down for ages when i stand
my pain is groin and down left leg at front and down shin area, does this indicate anything to anyone please? all better this week after injection - not having anymore though if suggested
Your pain sounds exactly like mine. The pain going on down the shin I was told was normal. My original x rays didn't show much OA and yet I was in a lot of pain. I had the injection about 4 months ago - VERY painful and didn't help much but x rays taken 6 weeks later showed rampant OA and the surgeon said that the degeneration can be quite rapid , especially in women aged 40 - 60. I'm going for my replacement on Thursday Hopeful that I'll get my life back soon.
Keep your chin up and if they suggest an op - take it!!!
Hi Rosie thanks for that! yes injection sooo painful he siad there wasnt cavity space? but immediate relief for four days now. my refcent x ray is same as previous one 3 years ago so this is why im confused maybe when i see specialist more to be revealed in 3 months time, il book it now though My gp said scan very good so i went off to try alternatives, so have no idea now what to expect - they thought it may be back but after injection i feel not!
ROLL ON THURSDAY, see you on other side when you can chill with a real excuse and relief!! pxx good luck soon be done and over
I had the same, I'd been putting up with sciatica for over 10yrs. Then the last 2yrs I couldn't go anywhere without a stick, I had mri's xrays the lot, all came back normal, so it was all in my head!! January this yr my docs were fed up of seeing me so, they sent me to see a consultant, had an X-ray done there & then, OA had ripped it's way into my hip, he booked me in for RTHR in March. As Pauline said if they offer it take it!
i echo rosie and julie exactly the same pain...looking back i had been having trouble ove 5 years before it was xrayed and i was told it needed a new hip 8 weeks later i had it done and although i have little problems all that pain is gone like a miracle .....best thing i ever did as im a very active 66 years old....so i would say get it done ....good luck....roy
thanks all yes im coming out of denial this weekend! lol seems a bit strange to be talking new hip when havent been told I need one by the experts two x rays an MRI of back and hip countless GP visits and now an injection with thIS second opinion at wythenshawe hospital as macclesfield said i may need one in ten years or so and to take ibrUPHEN! but know deep down it has to be, i feel it in bed now too and there is a jarring sensation down leg as well and so stiff!! friend of 56 had hers last year but no leg pain just hip area - glad to find you, she rambles now and brought me her special big pillow in case!!!!!
I am due for RTHR on 10th June. The groin and thigh pain is typical arthritic hip pain.I am 63, very active and I suffered for some time, just thinking it was 'old age' creeping up. My doctor sent me for X Rays, but as they showed first mild then moderate arthritic changes, advised me to wait till it got really bad before having the replacement hip or 'I wouldn't feel the benefit'.
As the pain worsened, I insisted on going for another X Ray, and I also had an MRI scan which showed severe degenerative changes. I was then put on the waiting list for THR. However, from just feeling day time pain and being able to walk unaided, I have detiorated rapidly in the last 5 months. Pain day and night, cannot sleep, very bad limp and have to go everywhere with a stick - even round the house and exhausted all the while.!
Don't leave it too long - the pain wears you down.
I cannot wait to have my op and get my life back to normal.
Just reading all the positive messages from people make you realise that you don't have to put up with the pain and disability. There is a new life at the end of the tunnel
thankyou, yes agree entirely, but funnily the recent x ray in march the consultant says is no worse than the one two yrs ago and mild! but I question that now and confused because of the pain levels and limping I was up to before the injection the other day - i can barely straighten when i stand for a minute or two and everything effort, ive felt worn out too and at end of a tether, im 61 and always been active and nippy so its a bit of a culture shock but have slowed down finally
my mri says only mild changes and no full cartledge loss . . . . . . .hence having then a 2nd opinion then to be told he thinks there IS bone to bone on that scan so although Im all for the op I just would like accurate diagnosis! and really dont know what to do now? Il put in for my 3 month after injection appointment asap xx
sorry, that was mobile MRI that I had the physio said isnt so clear??
but been told also that x ray is clearer for these things???
confused .com, will leave it to this consultant and get the jist what he thinks now
lots of love and good luck!! so pleased for you getting out of pain, Im unsure about waiting as you were told, as its emotionally stressful esp when trying to hold down a physical job
It's a nightmare trying to work and cope with everything else - I work full time and have a business.
I think that you have to insist that you get the help you need and foremost a correct diagnosis. You do have to push for these things because you are the one in pain. My MRI scan showed a lot of things up that were not apparent on the Xray
I think I was in denial for a while that I was bad enough for THR
Once the nightime pain hit me, I knew it was time
I hope you get a positive treatment plan in place as soon as possible
I think you will feel happier and more focused on the path to take.
My very best wishes to you. This site is very helpful and will give you a lot of encouragement from like-minded people
well to me it sounds like the pain you are having in the groin and leg is the same as what I had back in 2011, I had an xray and they said both my hips were badly affected with cronic OA, but I put it off untill I coud no longer stand it, and last nov. I had my left hip done, it's great the pain is gone, but the other one started to get worse around 2 weeks later, I went back to my surgeon and I'm now going in this month to get the right one done, so if I was you I would insist you have it done before the pain gets so bad that you become housebound, lots of luck to you,
yes thank you lovely people here!!!! so reassuring and helpful, yes i was in denial but also a lot because I haadnt had proper diagnosis, still havent as when had 2nd opinion there were 4 students present and it went a bit pear shaped and I left just saying Id try the injection, maybe it is a bit obscure and he needed this to determine - when done the registrar said no space in cavity - thats pretty explicit
sorry to ramble lol the cat is fed of it for sure hip hip Im here.....sorry about that
I think we all have experienced the "the band aid" treatments and I have been thankful for them. The injections and the use of medications, the creams, ice, heat and anything else we can think of that can help us gimp along because going under the knife is not our desirable first choice.
We give in to the surgery when staying in the same condition without it becomes more difficult to bear than going through the surgery. Right?
We each have our different thresholds and I wish you the best when you find yours and go for the surgery. We are here to cheer you on, give helpful tips and advice and share our tales.
good morning Pauline ... same here - I thought I had pulled a groin muscle after an uncomforatble 12 hours flight from Amsterdam to Los Angeles - when it didn't get better by itself an x-ray was taken and showed mild OA in right hip ... that was in 2008 - limping through the years, not too bad but not too good either - fast forward to 2014 where xray by new doctor showed severe OA in right hip - but "not at the end of my rope" yet - Getting worse and in lot of pain ... Xray October 2014, bone on bone - was still in denial - how was that possible, right ? Left hip joint okay, start to show mild OA - RTHR on March 16, 2015 ...Follow up visit May 13, 2015 -- new hip healing perfectly - left hip almost bone on bone -
I live in Holland now and for some reason they just push the surgery - weird unless I am in a really bad shape .. I am 66 (67 in June) and now almost 11 weeks post-op .... thanks to this wonderful forum I am so much calmer and not afraid for the second THR anymore (is not scheduled yet) -
So sorry you are in so much pain - go and get a second opinion ... I mean if there is no space for the injection than there is no cartilage left, right ?
Do you have any pain killers ? Good luck and come back here - warm hug
so true Linda .... who will, first of all, listen to you and understanding what you are going through - I am not telling them about the loo challenges - well, I did and it made them feel uncomfortable - I live alone and didn;t want to bother people either - but here ??? here I can share everything, get support and invaluable tips, encouragement and this warm feeling that I am not alone - that bis priceless ---
