Anybody take blood thinners?

hi I think im being missdiagnosed. i KNOW Ive had 2 Afib attacks but my cardiologist can't catch them on the monitor but Im so afraid of developing a stroke. i see him tomorrow and Im gonna push to be on a blood thinner for percausion. but I heard they can be dangerous. any thoughts or advice would be very grateful!!

hi,
how do you know you had an afib attack? what did it feel like?
im just asking as ive had the same but been diagnosed and had a operation to fix the problem.
I had SVT which was very scary my heart rate was 240bpm but i was in no danger, hard to believe when its happening to you!
I wouldnt reccomend blood thinners x

Blood thinners suck. and not always with someone with AFIB has to be on blood thinners. I was on blood thinners for 6 months for a PE. with warfarin it has an antidote which is vitiman K. all the newer ones do not. I have hear they have or are in the process of getting one but its not FDA approved yet. with blood thinners you will always be at risk for excessive bleeding. when you cut yourself you just have to apply pressure longer. you will bruise easier and they may last longer. if you can avoid blood thinners I would recommend that.

hi there thank you for your reply!! well heres my story. i had boughts of drinking, the next morning at work all of a sudden I became nauseous, sweaty and started having palpitations like crazy, non stop, felt like I couldn’t catch my breath. my beats were all over the place and my heart was racing. for about 30 min. the medics came and ran a ecg. they said it was rapid Afib. but by the time I got to the hospital it was normal, so the er doc thought I was making it up. eventually I saw a cardiologist and showed him the ecg and said it wasn’t. and put me on a monitor. if its not Afib… what could it possibly be? my main concern is I was in this… palpitation fit for so long. ive heard that if the palpitations last more than a few seconds, they could be dangerous. what did yours feel like?

thank you for your reply back. I thought anyone with Afib needs them. Each time I get an attack, Im scared of the damage it could cause, or one day Im gonna have a heart attack or stroke

my ECG said AFib but it was actually SVT my heart rate was 240bpm for an hour. Some Arrythmias are harmless unless youre having them for days on end, someone in my exes family had an arrythmia and she used to be in it for days with no help. If a cardiologist has looked at your ECG and said its not AFib then you need to trust them.
look up SVT and you might get some reassurance that its more of a nuisance.

my heart just suddenly started racing and it would stop as quick as flicking a light switch id get a big thud and my heart rate would go back to normal

You could also have what are called PACs or PVCs which are harmless and almost everyone gets them just some people may feel theres. it’s just like extra beats. caffeine is one thing that can trigger palpitations. I cut out caffeine almost completely. you never want to put yourself on any medication unless its necessary because some do have long term effects.
