In Oct 2010 I was diagnosed Hyperthyroid. Tsh <0.03 T4 48. Had been ill for months and had many blood tests. Was shaking ,sweating, itching, erratic heart rate etc. Was like this from March 2010, blood always normal, no treatments or diagnosis until October 2010 when I started losing 4pounds a day. Previously I had gained 3 stones in 6 months. Put on Carbimazole. Have poor drug tolerance so started on 15mg with instruction to increase to 30 mg after 7 days. In 2 days I was fine !! Symptoms virtually gone. In 3 weeks blood readings fine again. Taken off carb and was fine for a while but sick again by April 2011. T4 fine TSH very low ( nonexistent) Put on beta blockers, got fatter and fatter, could not breathe and very depressed. Very ill poor quality life, suicidal. Eventually put back on 10 mg carb, was well in days. Went badly under in 3 weeks, had to come off but was well. Only for a few months ! Symptoms came back worse than ever but all blood fine. Have moved home. Eventually saw Endo at new hospital. My blood is OK, no graves antibodies but hashimotos ones.T4 TSH fine. I was very sick, heart issues(had all tests, cardiologist says my heart is fine and problems caused by a medical condition eg thyroid ) My vision is being affected, optician says pressure on optic nerve, I am itching sweating, irritable, anxious, weepy and FAT. Bowels move far too often, hair, nails brittl, big red face, red palms, under arm hair don't grow, bleeding gums and on and on ! Gp was so worried she prescribed Carb. Well in days, lost weight, I was totally transformed, everyone saw it. Better still I was able to take 5 mg daily without going hypo and stay well. NOW wait for it........ Endo says can't stay on carb cause clinical signs say I am euthroid. Told my GP not to prescribe. Off it a week and already relapsing. Carb at 5mg daily did not make me hypo, my TSH actually dropped, which no on can explain. I was well for first time in ages. My GP is furious but her hands are tied. Seeing different Endo next week( GP demanded it) but she had already said she supports her colleagues decision. I am at my wits end. I have had a ultrasound and nuclear scan. I have "a few nodule " never biopsied I have slightly irregular gland activity "but no more than expected with a graves patient" I have not actually been diagnosed with graves, it is merely the new doctors assumption. My thyroid is sore, my throat is sore, swallowing difficult, feel a lump in my throat, choking sensation when I lie down. This all goes away totally when on nothing but carb. What can I do ? No one except Gp will listen to me !!!!!
Hi, I have had thyroid problems since 2008 with the same symptoms as you. Anxiety, shaking, rapid heart, muscular pain, joint stiffness. I too had a reaction to Carbimazole so my endo changed me onto propylthiouracil PTU instead. I have bee on PTU and beta blockers for just over 2 years. I am euthyroid as the PTU keeps me euthyroid but the symptoms haven't disappeared. I still get all the symptoms and take extra beta blockers to deal with them. I don't have Graves but my thyroid uptake revealed that my thyroid won't uptake so I have some sort of thyroiditis, but also a multi nodular goiter. The nodules don't appear either hot or cold and the largest is 2.5cm and I get hoarseness intermittently throughout the day. This illness is ruining my life and I can't drive as I feel faint and dizzy so I am planning on getting a total thyroidectomy in December.
I don't understand why you are being put on and off of the Carbimazole the whole point of these drugs is to keep you euthyroid. Have you done an uptake test to see is you are able to have the radioiodine treatment?
hi i have some tips, try to avoid that for your thyroid problems..
Refined foods
Saturated fats
Sugar
White flour
Try to take Black walnuts that has large amount of iodine to stimulate the thyroid and the best thing is regular exercises which give best result..
