Anyone been to a Back Clinic?

Hiya all smile

Hope everyone is OK. Well, I took the plunge and went to see my GP last week. I haven't plagued him with my neck for a few years, but I'm getting muscle spasms in my upper back now quite a lot more than I was; also increase in headaches, dropping things unexpectedly and some dizziness on turning. Oh and tinnitus has increased (I am convinced it is related). He's referring me to the local hospital's psychiatrist :lol: , sorry just joking, he's sending me to the back clinic, I didn't know they had one. So I was wondering if anyone has been to one?

Five years ago I was attending the physio dept in local hospital for shoulder impingement, they fixed that with an operation, but when they were giving me post-op physio for the shoulder they explained that my neck would not be improved, as it is cervical spondylosis, so a separate condition. They did give me some physio, but it didn't help really, eventually they gave me a booklet on spondylosis and how to manage it.

I'm wondering if this 'back clinic' is the same physio department and if the treatment will be the same.

Seeing as I'm so behind with current hospital treatment, I'm hoping someone here will be able to bring me up to date maybe?

Yep, I've been to a back clinic, I have lumber stenosis and spondylosis and discs out of place, the whole nine yards :D grief I sound neurotic, I'm not, the only other thing wrong with me apart from CS is an irregular heartbeat, sense of humour firmly intact :lol:

Like you the physio could do nothing for me, so why is your doc sending you to this clinic?????

Ok, the back clinic, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAArrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggg!!! My advice would be not to go, why on earth is he sending you to a back clinic when you have CS, it nearly killed me, they could have changed granted, but, having to use 20 different gym things, ie, throwing medicine balls to each other, using an exercise bike, roll bars or something like that, a running machine, dumb bells, oh gawd the memories, I was on my knees after 15 mins and couldn't move the day after with the pain, it's up to you Lou they could have changed. But I would be very wary because of the condition, and yes I think tinnitus can happen with CS, oh joy :wink:

hi everyone, i have just read the posting of lou, tinnitus is a side effect of cs i believe(if you check past postings i am sure it is mentioned), i also have dizzy spells and i was prescribed serc-16, they worked wonders. if what aunty em says is right then the back clinic sounds like torture. i have been told that anything i feel in my back now is down to my cs, who to believe, i dont know anymore. lou i think you were very brave going to see your gp again, i am going next week and i am scared to death in case he thinks i am loopy. so good luck with whatever you decide and i hope we all can help you, whichever you choose.

Thank you Aunty Em and Chris for your replies. Aunty Em you have confirmed what I was suspecting ......... forewarned is forearmed and all that, so I will go along fully prepared .......... to say 'no chance' :lol: . They really put you through it didn't they? The physio I had before wasn't as full on as that, but it did hurt. But then I got a young chap who seemed quite switched on to cs, he showed me a skeleton and demonstrated what happens when you tip your head backwards etc. And he was very careful, he tried traction, but stopped because I felt a little whoozy, said it was interfering with the blood supply to my brain. But as good as he was, he couldn't really help much, in fact the best treatment he gave me was microwaved wheatbags, they were good, but smelly. We can do that ourselves though, can't we?

Re. the tinnitus, I've noticed a definite pattern, if my neck is worse, the tinnitus is louder, and vice versa. It's so definite that I thought it couldn't just be coincidence. I'll see if I can do a search on here for tinnitus and see what others have said.

Well, good luck next week with your GP Chris, I know how you feel. Here's hoping yours will do something good for you (and not shove you onto the back clinic!).
