Has anyone on this site has had same op. as me? My half hip replacement has been problematic and I’ve now been told I will need a revision but I keep being told different things about how long this op. is meant to last. Has anyone on this site had the same surgery and what were you told?
I was told by my ER Dr. after I fell that I would have a hemiarthroplasty. When I met the ortho, he said “definitely no”. They don’t work well at your age (70). I had full anterior hip replacement 10 weeks ago. All is fine.
Normal hip replacement without complications usually takes about an hour.

I’m 54 but have mobility problems. I can still walk on a treadmill. I’m putting in a complaint to the NHS as I’m expected to live into my 70’s. I wasn’t told the operation wouldn’t last. If fact my surgeon said I could get 15 years out of it. I no longer believe him but was really hoping someone on this site might say they had had the implant for that long.
sorry I wasn’t clear. I meant how many years before my operation will wear out. I was told 15 years if I don’t do impact exercise but I no longer believe it.
I think 15 years is what they usually say that it should last.
Oh I really hope you’re right Graham. Surgeon wouldn’t even give me an indication. Simply shrugged. The one who did the op. has left. Can I ask where you heard that?
It's what my surgeon told me to expect, I have heard similar time estimates from others too.
Thank you. I’m going to try and stop worrying. Think I saw a surgeon with a very bad bedside manner! They don’t realise that you hang on their every word.

I would hope for a lot more than 15 years. I'm sure avoiding running or other impact sports will help extend the new joint's life. The technology is improving all the time so joints put in in 2017 should last a lot longer than those they were putting in 15 years ago.

I was told by a nurse who is a good friend, that orthopaedic surgeons have a reputation for very bad bedside manner, I know mine did.
I’ve been told that half hip replacements don’t last as the implant erodes your own socket. I’m not very mobile anyway so am going to cut down on the exercise I do to try and put off the revision. Still furious no one discussed it with me before the op. as I’m pretty sure I was mobile enough to keep the THR in place.
