please can anyone relate to pain down the front of thigh and some pain in calf when walking, am getting knee twinging also now, so getting concerned its my knee also! groin pain, still very much there
I want to know as much as poss as the consultant Mr Lovell said the leg pain didnt relate to needing new hip??? so if i have the op am i to still expect the leg pain, as this is worse than anything!? i dont want an unecessary op obviously, the deteriation seems to be small, its anteria. first consultant sent me away
does stiffness generallyh ease up after op?
any help appreciaed
thanks again pauline
Cannot speak for anyone but myself. I got knee pain so bad that I was convinced I needed a knee replacement. The GP arranged for X-rays on both hip and knee. Bone on bone in hip, when the replacement was done no more pain in the knee! Apparently referred groin pain also occurs
I had pain down my leg, into my knee and all the way to my feet! I was originally diagnosed with sciatica but it turned out to be all hip related so it seems pain goes all over the place. Hope you get the outcome you need.
Hi Pauline
My first indication of OA was the groin pain although I didn't realise it at the time and I had that for ages, then the hip pain, knee pain leg pain, ankle pain. Mine progressed rapidly after that with day then the bad night pain. Then I coudn't walk anywhere in or outside the house without a stick.
I had 2 steroid injectios 3 months apart. First one lasted 3 weeks, second one virtually no improvement
Don't let yours progress till it is really bad. Once your hip goes it goes quickly. My surgeon said my joint had collapsed and femur was coming out of the socket!
Good luck and pester your consultant if you don't feel happy
Stiffness and pain go after your op - just pain from the actual op which goes stage by stage and is controlled with pain killers. The difference is amazing!
KInd regards Linda
Hi Pauline, I experienced loads of pain in the front of my thigh. My physio said it was muscle pain and gave me some exercises to do at home, he also enrolled me in a hip class for 6 weeks. Athough the pain in the joint is just as severe the physio has really strengthened my leg and the pain in the front of my thigh has almost gone. Am hoping for a referral soon - wear and tear in hip was moderate over a year ago and has definitely worsened since - just one more week of physio to go, but if I do get my referral I hope the physio will stand me in good stead for a better recovery.
I was told that my pain wasn't consistent with needing hip replacing. I had a steroid injection in my back which did nothing. After having the injection into hip I had 6 weeks of heaven and then it came back twice as bad.
They finally agreed to replace my hip & the relief was instant. 6 months on and I have no pain whatsoever.
I'm a bit stiff sometimes but exercise usually sorts that. Get it done as soon as you can. It's really worth it.x
Hi all
o thank you all lots, really helpful and as i hoped, seems all related, haha yes i ws talking myself into needing a knee too!!! i will push a bit in sept when i see him, me too that im fitter now after physio and on bike, i do walk better but its not enough, i cant trust myself to go for walk in case i cant get back.
thanks again, so good on here, no i dont want a second injection the secretary asked me, what is the point if only a quick fix, but it has proven with the first injection into groin that all the pain went for 3 weeks.
justg watching the young boy wanting new leg due to his condition, heart rendering and puts it all in perspective for sure
love and thnx x
p.s. my gp didnt tell me the x ray was bone to bone nor had the first consultant - ive had 2 opinions to date so felt quite let down by that
i spent so much money also going to lots of alternative therapists because of this for 14 months until a new GP looked back and told me the first report said bone to bone, its been 4 yrs now total so hoping my joint isnt too damaged
thats my story to date, i dont understand though why some say OA can go quickly, why doesnt it continue after the op?

I have hip pain, the pain goes down the side of my leg around he hip joint it radiates round into my groin.I can't sleep for pain nothing helps.
I can't put my weight on my leg and it's getting very difficult walking. I had exray in may and had to wait 5 weeks for results.
I am now going for corticosteroid injection on Monday. If this don't work I'm going to ask to see a specialist .it not nice being in pain so I know how you feel x holly
Hi Holly
thinking of you yes keep on it lovey i didnt want the injection but sooo glad now as it has been diagnostic although consultant will advise in sept what he thinks (i hope) no point to me having a second injection as it only lasted 3 weeks and to me it is a bit of a tease but the positive is its proven where thepain is and I am NOT yet back to the worese pain as beofre, i was limping around and it took all energy to keep going, it is now definately radiating from hip and groin whereas before my back came into play
although i pace myself now i cant wait to get free of this and follow instincts not pacing and sitting just to get me through the next couple of hours at work etc
keep in touch px
