As we were leaving the hospital the doctor came in and out some kind of packing in to help control the bleeding. Then but gauze and a pad around it. Did not say packing it would be necessary. It has subsided some, but it was an awful lot. They made the site about a half dollar in size. Were gonna do a sitz bath this morning and the bleeding hasn't stopped we will contact the doctor. Just wanted to get someone's input and whether or not that have had something similar happen. Thanks for your reply.

Hi why can't you eat. This is a very painful condition. It can take weeks before it starts to get easier. But by now it should be getting better. Do you have a cutting seton? Maybe that is edgy it is still very sore.
Hi tulip, I had a very painful fistula which I had healed with ANOHEAL 2% cream. It took quite a time but was really good, This was a few years back now, the colorectal consultant prescribed it to me. I was told the surgery can cause incontinence? The fistula can come back at any time. So uncomfortable & very very painful was mine, every now & then I would have to take one Tramadol to ease the pain as well as using the cream, I think once you have had this every now & then it will get a little uncomfortable. Hope this helps.

Hi!
So it's so nice to read a success story and feel like I can relate.
I am 4 days in to recovery from my seton surgery and can honestly say I've never cried so much! I got married just 6 weeks ago and although my hubby is amazingly supportive.... I just can't believe where I am at with this!
So glad to hear it was resolved with the seton although it took a year. My first abscess was 2014 and this is my first seton.
Does the drainage eventually disappear or how do you know it's getting better and that the seton is doing its job? That's something that hasn't been explained to me yet.
Thanks x
Hi Nina
I totally understand!!!!!
I got married 6 weeks ago and four days ago I had a seton put in. I have never cried so much but I am really hoping that the seton will work.
How have you been? Did you go for surgery? I'd love to hear how you are doing and just nice to know it's not only me going through this horrible ordeal!
Hope to hear from you soon
X
Hi LKPE,
Since this post I have a seton in . I have unfortunately been diagnosed with a transsphincteric fistula which is hard to cure because if he location . It's too much into the muscle . For now I have the drain and then the next step is the LiFT of the advanced Flap procedure . Both of which have very low success rates. I'm beyond stressed . I can't even believe this has happened to me . They told me I just have bad luck . I don't have Crohns or IBS , just bad luck. I've been serving to find people that have had good success with these procedures and I'm not finding much at all . It's depressing . I don't want to have a drain for the rest of my life! I want to be able to live my life, ride my horses and be normal again
First of all. I don't think anyone can guarantee you there is a cure for the abcsess or fistula. Its all depend on your body and your patience.
I am a transportation driver. I got the hemorrhoid for more than 20years.then 1year for the fissure. 3months for the abcsess. And about 2 weeks developing to fistula. Its a long chain reaction being suffered from this problem.
Secondly. I got surgery 2days ago for my lower fistula. I did a lot research before I made up my mind cause fistula will never healed by itself. The surgery the earlier the result better. My surgery took less than 20 minutes. They put me into sleep once I got on the surgery bed. But I felt a lot of pain after I recovered. They gave me 4 dose of painkiller by injection consistently. I wish they could tell me all the details after the surgery which they would never do. I took painkiller after I got home. And it took 45mins to get a p**s. I could barely sleep well first night cause I went to washroom every 1or 2hours.
Day 1. I got bowel movements around noon. Its really painful when I pull the dressing put. Its likely to tear the bandage off your wound inside your anal wall. And I did a lot anal exercise before I push the stool out.and had lax pills the previous night. its a bit dry. But feel better when you get it out. Afterwards pus come out from the fistula open cut which i did know and doc never told me. I was struggling to wipe out and try to contact the docs office. But I dropped the phone after I did more research on line.
Day 2. I kept using painkiller. Eat lots of veg avoid eat anything solid. Drink juice. Eat fruit....try to do everything healthy way. Had 2 bms already. Got pus consistently draining.
The reason I put my story here is just because we have been going through a lot pressures from everywhere. Sometime we suffer more from emotional stuff than the body pain. We need support from each other which we should get it from the professionals like doc. Unfortunately they would never give these kind of details.
I will update tomorrow.
If you don't have Crohns then a fistulotomy has a greater than 95% chance of eliminating the fistula for good. Most anal abscess/fistulas are not Crohns related, they just occur at a significantly higher frequency amongst people with Crohns. If you do have Crohns then, judging by what I've read, you shouldnt even have surgery for the fistula, but instead have a seton put in place. Natural medicine is useless for solving the fistula or abscess and you would be doing nothing but wasting your time. Some natural medicine can be useful for mentally calming you (placebo effect) and there is some evidence that coconut oil can help loosen up the scar tissue left my the surgery, but NONE of the natural remedies will actually cure the fistula. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a quack.
I agree fistula can only be cured by Surgery. I had my operation in August 2017 I was suffering from fistula since 2012. I took aayurvedic medicine which then gave me relief but it came back big time. I decided to get rid of this pain for good and had my Surgery. Its been three month since operation I m totally cured and I changed my food habits eat lots of fiber and keep away my self from any spicy treat. I suffered lot of pain post surgery and God I only calm my self saying that it will only last a month and it did. I m very happy now it just feel like that I never had fistula.
Hello
This is very interesting. Can I ask where your stats are from please? I found in the UK it is so difficult to get proper stats and can take along time to get what information they do have.
I saw a recent poll on Fistulotomy that showed it was less than 60%.
I also know of one person who says they were cured by Homeopathy years ago. Also many are now turning to Kshar Sutra which has surprised me but some are saying it has worked for them and not come back but again they also have a healthy diet. The main reason they do this is because the stats for normal surgery show way to much risk of damage and lack of proof that it actually works.
I think that is the thing with this it is different for everyone, some it works for and some it doesn't but more importantly it is making sure it doesn't come back.
Sorry for the late response. Haven't been here for a while but that's a good thing. It was about size of a dime but would flare up to size of a golf ball.
Day3. Still had lax before bed previously. Got 4 times bms which was pain in the butt every single time just because I ate lit bit more. Felt painful....
Pus kept coming out inside and out of cut.
And I started to do some walking during the day..felt depression cause I never know when would be the end.
Got 1 sleeping pill from my mother-in-law which helped a lot.
Day4.. everything stayed the same more or less. I was able to get to the gym. After 1/4 work out of the regular day I felt so weak although I bypass all the movement cross the butt...cause I didn't eat well.
After I got hom. Found lit bit more pus came out on the thick paper towel which the wife used for cooking wipe...its really good at absorb the pus than a female pad...
I just kept eating some juicy food. The more liquids the less painful when I had the bms. I had 2 times today. And actually the second time just a kind of feeling to go..not really matter since I know it's gonna be soft and would not be too much.
I still stole one sleeping pill before bed. I didn't take the lax cause it would be necessary base on what I ate and what I had done during the day.
Thanks for reading...tomorrow would be the last day stay at home..the working days coming.. have to work for living....
Hi thanks for the suggestions. My brother has had a fistula for about 3 years now. He's had 13 surgeries and still no success. He is constantly in pain with no relief. I welcome any advice as I hate seeing him suffer so much
I'm about 3 years out from a successful surgery. I was fortunate because I waited way too long to deal with the problem and had a recurring abscess for 4 or 5 years. When the surgery was done, the colo-rectal surgeon felt that he might be able to fix me with a fistulotomy alone, but he thought the location of the interior opening of the tunnel was just a bit too high, so he placed a seton. I didn't find it particularly uncomfortable post-operatively. I returned twice to the office so he could tighten it. I will say the first time he tightened it, it was very painful both when he actually did it and then for a full day or so afterward. I took pain meds. The 2nd tightening visit was painful, but not as bad. Then about a week after the 2nd tightening, I just noted the seton had fallen out, which is exactly what is supposed to happen. It took less time than predicted to work its way through the tissue--maybe a total of 2 weeks. I do think the key on this is to find a really good and specialized surgeon.
cutting seton, I meant to say.
AnalAbscess: Fistulectomy or (otomy) has a success of 95% or so. It is confirmed by a number of studies.
Burl4 thanks for letting us know, that's a good story.
As I said above please confirm what studies. I would be very interested to read these.
Many thanks in advance.
