Found this article on FB - wondering if these glasses actually do help with glare from oncoming headlights. Basically article written by someone who list there mom in a head on collision due to blinding lights of oncoming traffic. They invented these night vision glasses. Doing some searches as I personally haven’t found a pair that work.
Interesting that many people find glare an issue (who don’t have cataracts or undergone cataract surgery). Headlights today are brighter than years past so I am not really all that surprised. But it may mean more products will be invented to help drivers.
Not sure why this on a forum for cateract concerns. I can tell you that glasses and films that promise super clarity vision are mostly useless and designed to make money for the promoters. Don’t waste your money they are just a novelty.
Posted here on cataract forums as many of us are dealing with glare at night - oncoming traffic headlights etc. Wondered what others thought about night vision glasses, if they help with glare etc. Wasn’t for clarity - just better vision at night.
I found a pair of visors that help cut down the glare but not eliminate it I would say it cut;s it down by 50%
there is a daytime and a nighttime visor the daytime is gray while the nighttime is yellow
They also have a slider of the same color on each so you can move it where you see the most glare
So I use all of them when driving at night the worst lights are the LED headlights that cause starburst effect So I adjust the visor halfway down so the road is clear in front of me up to a certain distance and use the slider all the way to the left to reduce most of the glare

I haven’t seen any links anywhere that were allowed. Overly strict, but probably trying to maintain security of this site.

I found something else that works pretty good
The earlier post was for when I was having cataracts and trying to avoid glare
Now after the surgery in one eye I am working on reducing halos
I found an old pair of gas welding glasses that I used when I was younger and working on my car
I believe this is a shade 5 so it’s not as dark as the arc welding one but it’s darker than most sunglasses It has a green tint to it and it also has protection on the side which comes in handy when the sun is setting and it’s hitting the side of left eye when I am driving so I don’t have to move the sun visor to the side and back as the road turns
It cut’s down the intensity of the halos by a lot so the halos are fainter except for the super bright LED headlights
It also makes the halos disappear a few hundred feet earlier than without it
I can use it from dusk to dawn and I still see the dashboard with the glasses on
It also cuts down the sun reflections intensity of the halos but it does not eliminate them
I used to wear 2 and sometimes 3 sunglasses one on top of the other when the sun is really bright but with the third pair I could not see the dashboard
This one is about the right shade and also has the shields on the side to protect from the sun on the left side
with that many sunglasses wouldn’t you have an issue with contrast?
No problem with contrast when the sun is so bright I find it very comfortable that I don’t have to squint wherever I look
I’ve always worn sunglasses outside - even before cataract surgery (all seasons).
You mention wearing these at night so wondering how contrast is at night with them.
I also have worn sunglasses before cataracts but I did not have to deal with the bright circles around LED lights and sun reflections that seem to be brighter after the surgery than before cataracts
Perhaps there was a misunderstanding
I do not wear this one at night That would be too dark
But from sunrise to daytime and up to sunset it works well to reduce the intensity I can’t do much about the circles but at least I can reduce the brightness of them to a more comfortable level so I don’t go blind looking at them when I am driving
I did used to wear the regular sunglasses at night when I had the cataracts but those are not so dark and the vision was cloudy so the headlights did not seem to be as bright
It was mostly to reduce the starbursts
It is more difficult to drive that way but it was just local roads so slow speeds around 30mph and most of the time just following the brake lights of the car in front of me and just watching the painted line on the side of the road just back and forth to work no new roads and no highways
If there was no car in front of me and no oncoming traffic I could take the glasses off and could see quite well despite the cloudiness
It’s when light reflects into the eye with the cataract that is the problem
At night I don’t see the cloudiness so it’s not a problem until there is a light shining into my eye
Later on I switched to the visor I mentioned which reduces the headlight intensity but I pull it down just enough to cover the headlights and the rest is clear below so the visor does not block the view of the road
Oh didn’t realize daytime glare (circles) were an issue for you. I don’t have any daytime issues other than brightness. Everything had a brownish tint when I had cataracts so on e they were removed everything was very bright. For several weeks wore sunglasses inside the house. Better now but still find outside sunlight too bright to go without sunglasses.
