Anyone NOT had any side effects on Citalopram?

Hi Lizzie, why did you swap from your other med to cit ?? Did your partner have any withdrawal symptoms coming off ?

Hi Nikki

I had to have an ECG every year on venlafaxine and last year there was a "blip", that was enough to stop gp from giving them to me any more ( I also think going above her head to psychatrist, when she first tried to take me off them had something to do with it!!!!)

Paul came off tablets no bother at all, if you are worried, dont forget tablets can be cut in half and quarters if need be.... I was on the time release venlafaxine which are much harder to stop taking because of what they call "half life"....basically how long the drug stays in the system....but google is a wonderful thing and I came up with a withdrawal plan that worked for me (eventually)

As I said before, there are lots of drugs out there...please don't be afraid, if this one doesn't suit, to tell the gp or psychiatrist .....after all that is what they are paid for, to look after you

all the best Lizziex

hi all,

i have been on cit for 6mths, dr put me straight onto 40mg and i have never experienced any problems with it. if anything i find it is completely ineffective and does nothing for me. does anyone else find this or is it just me?

I've been taking citalopram for 8 years with no side effects.

I have been taking Citalopram for 10 months now and must say it has been wonderful - I feel so much better, and in fact, when I stopped taking the treatment temporarily over Christmas, my husband noticed the difference in my mood, even though I hadn't mentioned to him that I had stopped (in fact forgotten) to take my medication.

Initial side effects were tiredness and a very slight dry mouth and increased thirst, but these were all minor and subsided very quickly. Within two weeks I noticed a difference and I now feel great and would definitely recommend this treatment, I know it isn't for everyone, but is has been fantastic for me.

The tablet is available in a 10mg form, so if you wish to start slowly, it is possible to split the dose during the day using the lower dose tablets.

I've been on it for over 2 years & it's given me my life back.

I suffer with fibromyalgia & the only side effect I had was a very slight headache for 2 weeks.

I take 40 mgs, I tried to cut it down a few months ago--I was ib such a state I went back up

after a week. I hope it never gets withdrawn.

Well its 2 wks today since starting on cit and am starting to feel much better ... I still feel v sick on a morning and my appetite is getting a bit better , one thing I've got which is v bizarre is I clench my teeth a lot and feel like ive got a spasm in my jaw occasionally , been to doc and she said not to worry and it l pass ... Anybody had any similar experiences ????? Nikkie

Hello all,

Yes Nikkie I can empathise with you about the teeth clenching /grinding ..

My dentist pointed this out also my wife said that I sometimes do this in my sleep.

I am going to Speech Language Therapy at my local hospital at present and they say that the clenching is a classic symptom of Anxiety and it is one of the ways that emotional tension manifests itself in physical form.

I am glad the Citalopram is starting to take effect for you, I have been taking Cit for around a couple of months and feel much better.

Try taking your tablet after the last meal of the day and see if that helps your sick feeling in the morning.

Best Wishes

Hi, thanks for replying, the only thing if I take it later i cant sleep ! Can't win !! Hope you don't mind me asking why are you seeing a speach therapist? It's nothing to do with what the ci5 has caused ? N

I used to clench my teeth, but since being on Citalopram it's stopped.

I'm glad as I shattered a few teeth & had to have them crowned or buiklt back up!

i had citolapram no sweat no after affects either they done the job i took them for.that was deppression because of many sleepless nights so go ahead and let them do their work

I have just taken my first 20mg and OMG I feel so ill. I am so hoping you are all right because after an hour I felt like I was going to have a heart attack and I'm as high as a kite and feeling very sick. Just signed up a moment ago and reading your posts as calmed me down a little but it is still very scary.

Hi Janey,

Are you taking Citalopram for Anxiety or Depression if you dont mind me asking?..

You should not be feeling 'High as a kite' after one tablet, I suggest you have a chat with your doctor about your side effects soon.. All tablets dont suit all people..

Good luck

I agree with Globus. I've never felt high on it at all.

It just made me feel like the normal laid back person I used to be.

Before that I was a mess, didn't even want to get out of bed.

I have Hypothyroidism which have given me terrible tremors and until the Levothyoxine balance is found I can't don't stop shaking. I don't have depression (well not as yet), the doctor thought they would take off the tremors for me. I really do think I need to talk to the doctor again, I did say to him that I have a bad reaction to sleeping tablets and antidepressants but he tried to assure me this was just a mild anxiety med.

thanks for answering though because it's made me feel like maybe he was being entirely true and not really listening, especially when I react so badly

hi janey, hang in there! ive been on it for 3 wks now and i have to say its just starting to kick in . im taking 10mg for mild anxiety. yesterday was the first day i actually felt like my old self. Like you when i started i felt completely out of it . the first 3 nights i didnt sleep at all. My mind was racing, felt like my heart was pumping out of my chest.VERY SCARY. I seemed to have every side effect on the instruction sheet. upset tummy,no appetite(ive lost a stone ), dizzy double vision, felt drunk......it does pass the only thing im concerned about is ive got a bit of a problem that comes and goes is i tend to clench my teeth and slur my words a bit, but my doc and pharmacist assure me it will pass ,as the anxiety gets better. if your concerned speak to your dr but from my experience there not very good clued up about effects of drugs and tend to generalise so speak to a pharmacist they are much more knowledgable about drugs good luck xxxxx n

I'm a little late to responding to this forum, but do want to say that after a few weeks of awful symptoms, I felt very well on 10 mgs citalopram. HOWEVER, it is now almost a year later, and I have been suffering from headaches, minor chills, blurred vision, and fuzzy thinking. My question is: does it make sense that after months of feeling well, I have slowly developed all of the above uncomfortable symtpoms? They all go away with Excedrin Migraine, but I don't want to be taking a strong anti-pain pill my entire life, in order to counteract the citalopram side effects.

I have an app't with my family doctor in a few days, and we will discuss what to do.

Anyone else experience unpleasant side effects after a period of no side effects?
