There don't seem to be many posts about this subject so I'm guessing there are not many of us with it. Unlike the other sufferers I'm 67 and well past my menopause. After going to my GP with abdomen discomfort and was finally diagnosed with a haematometra 2 weeks ago. I had a hysteroscopy under a general anaesthetic a week ago and they were able to drain one and a half litres of blood and fluid from my previously blocked uterus. I experienced some loss of pinkish fluid which diminished over a few days. Then suddenly I started to lose dark red blood wearing through thick maternity pads in an hour. This lasted for 10 hours then stopped. My consultant prescribed transexanic acid tablets which I started taking straightaway but the bleeding stopped by itself before they could take effect. I'm trying to find out if anyone else has experienced this. My gynae nurse said she can't say if it will happen again but if it does I'll probably be passing clots becuase of the tablets. It's made me very apprehensive about leaving the house - don't like the idea of losing a large clot halfway round Sainsbury's. I do get the feeling that this condition is quite rare as no one on the medical side seems to know what's going to happen. I'll eventually have to have a hysterectomy but would like to know, from anyone who's had a similar experience, where this blood could be coming from and why.
Thanks for reading through this rant. Just like to feel I'm not alone out here.
Hi Lupin, sorry to hear about your haematometra. Must admit I'd never heard of it, although I'm in a similar position myself. I'm 64 and have bleeding heavily with clots for the last month. I have at least one large fibroid and a polyp. I'm booked in for a hysteroscopy under a general on 30th September. They've had 2 attempts previously, one whilst I was awake and I couldnt tolerate it for more than 5 minutes and 1 under a general and they still couldnt do it. couldnt get the hysteroscope in apparently because I am so narrow. So we'll see what this attempt brings, although the consultant did say that if they cant do it he will do a laparoscopy. I know what you mean about not wanting to go out, I've had to cancel a hospital appointment because of the very heavy bleeding and feeling generally rotten. Hysterectomy is the last thing I (and the consultant) wants but I'd much sooner just get it over and done with if thats what its going to come to in the end. I wish you the very best of luck for the future and hope that you're soon on the mend.
Thankyou Lynne- sorry to hear you're having problems too. I have to say - the sooner they do my hysterectomy the better - like you I just want it over and my life back again. I read the posts of much younger women in similar positions who face losing their uterus before they've even had a chance to start a family and my heart goes out to them. At least that's not a problem for us. Maybe a bit more blessing counting should be on the cards ( still doesn't stop me moaning though!)
Do hope you have a result soon.
Yes, as I was saying to my cousin the other day, you think when you get to 64 that "all this menopause business" will be over. Do you get cramps, flushes, headaches or anything of that nature?
Yes, thank goodness I've got my family, couldnt have borne it if it had meant that I couldnt have had a family. As you say, a bit more blessing counting I think, but we're only human aren't we, wouldnt be human if we didnt have a good moan!!!
Thanks for your good wishes.
