Hi Fibro Pals
Does anyone on here ever read the leaflet that comes with the medication? I don't normaly bother, but yesterday I were opening a new bottle of Oramorph and read the leaflet.
If you have an Under Active Thyroid...Don't take....
If you are Over Weight...Don't take...
I unfortunatly are both of these...and have been on this mediction now for 2 years!!
I will certainly be asking questions at the Surgery!!
I always read them (when the pharmacy actually give me them) and do be surprised when I find I'm not supposed to take it because of various reasons. Doctors should check what medication you are on, and what medications should be avoided EVERY visit.
I totally agree with you, I shall be having words with them..
thats excatley why i dont take any so many side effects .
Doctors aren't infallible - I know, I was a practice receptionist for 5 years and worked with quite a few Doctors, and a prescriptions clerk, and I picked up on many things. You are always best to check out the directions leaflet and the contraindications before taking ANY medication, just in case, or check with the pharmacist - I was once given HRT which was meant for women who had no womb ( they'd had hysterectomies ) and should never have been prescribed for someone whose womb was still intact. If I hadn't known about prescriptions from doing them for years, I wouldn't have been any the wiser! I always check everything now.
Always...never bothered pre Fibro.....:-) xxxx
Hi Anne I once went to a lady doctor because on top of Fibro the menopause was causing me grief, most important was the sweats and I asked her for something that would help. I started taking the tablets she gave me and like you I never read the included leaflet, within a few days not only was the sweating worse but I started with palpitations. The following month when I received my repeat prescription the pharmacist had put some extra written details about the new drug in, I was shocked the new drug that the doctor had prescribed for my heavy sweats were in fact antidepressants!! To add insult to injury the many side effects included 'heavy sweats' and 'hot flushes', I couldn't believe it I felt a lot of things, betrayed, patronised and certainly not cared for. I had to come off them slowly so I had to put up with them for another month, I would like to say that I learned my lesson and read any and all leaflets since then, but I'm afraid I dont. To be honest I've discovered side effects to the drugs I take on this and another forum, which has been extremely helpful. Creatures of habit spring to mind! Huge hugs. S xx
It will be the pharmaceutical company's way of covering everything. Some people are taking high doses of oramorph and may also have sleep apnoea. The oramorph could reach high plasma levels and decrease or stop your breathing.
PATRONISED thats the word thats how the medical profession make me feel. i couldnt even get a test to see if i was going thru the menopause [i had a hyeterectomy] so i have no physical signs
,my fibro
symptoms had got worse i thought my age 54 at the time now 55 it might be due to menapuse. no denied . so i just went home and brought cream .called serenity . i have found a message oil on ebay to help with hot flushes and sweats .havnt tried it yet .
its no wonder people sometimes buy things on ebay that are dodgy
in desperation . i only buy from companies and sellers with very high feed back and branded goods that iv used for years.
Hi tiswas it's frightening that in this day and age of all the medical breakthroughs that you couldn't get a simple menopause test. I take menopol and I think it's working, I'm frightened to say definitely in case I jinx it! Huge hugs. S xx
I'm 64 and I have us black cohosh -for years-brilliant...worth looking up....doc wanted to give me pmt meds years ago..when I mentioned it could cause breast cancer..I was just told..well yes it might, but some. women will, but some women prefer getting that rather than the menapause symptoms,....mmmmm...really, how discussing....-natural or nothing..these tabs are just excellent....made in Germany...called. , Remifermin...really work, been taking them over 12 years now..gr8 with NO SIDE EFFECTS...:-) xxx
yes thats why i dont bother ,going to the doctors i should at least go once a year to have bloods done to make sure theres nothing eles going on
but i feel so small when i go into the doctors that i cant find my voice to stand up for myself .
i seem to have balanced out feeling more cold these days ,with an occasionly flush . esp if iv eaten carbs . so will see how i go ,iv tried
black coshosh not that brand / and red sage tea both give me an upset stomach . so will see how things pan out trying to cut down . even to many supplements can be bad for you .
but thanks for advice
That's the last thing that you should feel when you go to the doctors, tiswas, small! I stated in one of my posts that I had to go through quite a few other doctors (after mine retired) before I found the lovely one that I have now. I visited four other doctors and in my opinion none of them should have been practicing. I had quite a serious problem, aswel as fibromyalgia, arthritis and herniated discs in my spine, but it was the problem that was forefront. None of them done what they should have done, and that's not just my opinion but the doctors and the surgeon I ended up having to see in the casualty department!! So never feel small, they sign an oath to help you if they don't go to another one! S xx
were a small seaside town, with one practise and iv tried all of them at one time or another and they all pretty much the same.
i am moving this year to scarborough and fingers crossed il find a better doctor there.
my accupunturist was telling me that she has several midwifes come to her for training as part of there accupuntrist coarse
and she has a doctor also that is taking the course and comes to her for training so theres hope on the horizone for change in the medical proffesssion soon i hope.

Hi Christine...I will be checking from now on and asking more questions.Thats unless the Fibro Fog raises its ugly head, it usually does when I go to the doctors..
Hi Wendy..I normaly ask if a new med is ok to take with what I am allready on, and he alwaly says yes it will be fine... I have no faith in dr's anymore.I have a Pain Clinic appointment to go to next week, and I will be taking the leaflet along with me..And going armed with a list of questions..Otherwise anxeity will show, and I will not ask anything.
Hi Tiswas
I only have two perscribed meds for Fibro left, may wean myself off them too. I don't trust dr's anymore..
