anyone still enjoy a glass of red wine at dinner, while on prednisone

well, i have to confess , i was missing my wine, so have cut drastically, i now measure out 2 , 4oz glasses, one while i,m cooking dinner, and one during dinner, as well a fill glass of water in between, ive read few different opinions on that , what are your thoughts and practices out there please

This is exactly what I do - measure out two 4oz glasses of white wine, add ice and some fizzy Perrier and Voila, it relaxes me.. my doctor is OK with this.

I made a comment on another thread today about alcohol - I had to cut down on my glass of wine - now only a small glass at dinnertime maybe 2/3 times a week - what a shame when you can't enjoy a nice glass of red wine with a meal without worrying about the calories or acholic content!!   I'm only at 1.5 mg as well.

I have to confess that I didn't know I had to cut down on wine. I have been happily drinking since diagnosed with PMR and have gone from 20mg of Pred to 8mg without problems. I know I'll regret asking this - what have you been told about about alchol and pred?

I think there is a risk it can increase intestinal bleeding, so should be treated with caution, just like we are careful with painkillers we use when on pred.

There should be no problem drinking a glass of red wine while on steroids. I drink red wine and tell myself it is good as it is anti inflammatory!

Yes, I do enjoy a nice glass of red wine with dinner.  I have had no problems, blood tests have all been fine, and my doctor is fine with it.

Red wine does have antioxidents,  I feel that we have given up a lot with PMR, it is nice to be able to just enjoy a nice glass of red wine and feel normal again.  This has come up before, there are a few who will castigagte you for this, but there are others, like me, who have been just fine.  I think this is an individual case by case thing.  If your blood work is fine and you feel fine, enjoy!!!

Ditto Anhaga - plus in the early days of pred, because of the fatigue and immobility, I was starting to put on weight so had to adjust my calorie intake and this included the wine element

Hi Anhaga, I have never heard that about red wine, where did you hear about that? I know there can be liver problems, but that is true of alcohol for anyone.

Dr Google.

I used to work in a library and for years used the internet to help young people find information.  It's like another limb to me, and if I don't know something I look it up.  My training in the library taught me how to evaluate sites so I think I'm pretty good at finding authentic information - not that one doesn't make mistakes of course.

Whilst I recognize that red wine is supposedly better for you than white, I can't chill, ice or fizzy up red wine and it's hot here in CA, so that's the reason I go white and it goes further!

Of course I have my wine! I live in Italy - no-one says not to drink unless it is a medication you MUST not drink with! Or if you are driving - but that goes without saying for me...

Pre-pred I found that the PMR stiffness was better after I'd had a glass of wine - the vasodilatory effect kicking in I suspect.

I believe tonight it is a cheeky little Teroldego novella (eat your heart out Beaujolais nouveau)  :-)

Our local wines in northern Italy are fairly light - and always served slightly chilled. Occasionally when there's been a run on the red at the pizzeria perhaps a tad TOO chilled as it was brought up from the cellar. We also drink it mixed with sparkling water though personally I prefer them in separate glasses...

Oh I miss the taste of a good wine. Every time I drink it, evenjust  three swallows, I end up tipsy and feeling ill. I have no tolerance at all.  Enjoy your wine 🍾

I'm not a great wine drinker, although will take a glass occasionally.  I have found myself drinking beer a lot more, as our family samples the offerings of a burgeoning local craft brewing industry!  I figure if I can manage to use aspirin to treat headaches while still on pred I can safely imbibe in my rather abstemious way!  This involves my husband and son splitting most of a large bottle and filling my little handmade wine cup with a small share.  I treat alcohol like I treat chocolate - a little of the best goes a long way and is satisfying.

Thank you, that's what I think. Most things work better after a glass of wine or three.  Ciao

Do you drink your three swallows on an empty stomach?

I have the solution to your proble. Find Isobel Mondavi (Daughter of Robert) who produces a Cabinet Savignon Rosé which you will chill natually. It's fabo . Let me know!

Depends what you mean by empty. I have a glass or three before my evening meal but I always have lunch.
