Anyone tried low FODMAP for Crohn's?

My dietician has put me on a strict 3 month low FODMAP diet to try and ease my symptoms. Has anyone tried this? The diet looks so complicated and restrictive!

Hi Penelope

I'm awaiting instruction from my dietician regarding this diet. However she was very clear that the FODMAP diet is for treating the symptoms of IBS NOT IBD! That I would be doing it to see if it helped with some symptoms.

I have recently done a complete liquid diet (MODULEN IBD) and begun Vedolizumab infusions.

The FODMAP isn't a treatment for Crohn's but may be useful in finding trigger foods.  Also, as restrictive as it is it will be a good way to explore new food options.

Just give it your best shot and see if it helps.......you know your body best so do what feels best for you.

Good luck.

Hannah

How is Vedolizumab going?

You’re the first person I’ve ever met on it.

Hello, I also was given info on FODMAP, just think ‘beige’, anything like chicken/egg/rice/banana/white bread/plain biscuits/pasta/cauliflower/potato/plain yoghurt. I googled things to eat and you can have certain veg as long as it is cooked well. Anything fibrous irritates an already inflamed gut. I also bought protein shake powder, meal replacement, look for one that has vitamins and nutrients, they are easy to drink and add some flavour to a bland, boring diet.

Hi Ben

I've only had the first two infusions so far. Next one in a couple of weeks. I was Humira for 18 months but wasn't working anymore. I was surprised they didn't double the Humira dosage first, before moving me to a new biologic........and even more surprised that there was another biologic to try!!

Still dealing with symptoms, but too early to say if it's working.

Are you on Vedo?? And if so, how's it working for you??

Hi penelope, do you know if you have type two diabetes , according to doctor Google ,type two diabetes Crohns psoriasis are all manifestations of type two diabetes,

and after looking on some kind of cure on google , i have come up with  Chromium plus vanadium plus type two diet , OK maybe not a cure but maybe just slow it down from getting any worse , i am about to try it and see what happens ,

 good luck penelope .

Let me know how you get on with that diet! I have been tested for diabetes and I don't have it

hi penelope ,thanks for reply ,makes you wonder why they tested you for diabetes,..just type in  cure for diabetes 1957 ,maybe just me but i think Insulin just might have some thing to do with Crohns, and a lot more stomach problems .I've not started diet yet .good luck

I have not tried FODMAP but I did the SCD protocol and it completely changed me. If FODMAP works for you then I wish you the best but I actually did a diet that is completely the opposite. While FODPAM foods may not immediately ignite a flare they don't seem to help heal your but in the long run. If you are into nutrition I would suggest reading "Breaking the Vicious Cycle" while also consuming turmeric and Moringa. (Started my own Moringa company if you are interested in free samples I'm happy to send you some as it really helped for me). Whichever direction you choose I wish you the best and hope you can heal yourself and remain in remission.

Whats the SCD protocol? I've been doing FODMAP for a few weeks now and I can't say as its helped so far!
