My hysterectomy was scheduled for next Monday, and I was told I would be getting a notice in the mail for my preop appt 7 to 10 days before.
The post just came and there was nothing in it.
I have the contact number for the nurses' station and I have been ringing it and left a message, but no one picks up.
I'm kind of worried because I got a call a couple of weeks ago asking if I could reschedule my surgery to the Friday before, because they had too many hysterectomy patients and I said I couldn't because my husband, who would be taking me to and from hospital, had a job that day, so they said they would try to get someone else to move. So now I am wondering if I am even going to have my operation or if my appt letter has been lost in the post..
Also, I have only ever been to York hospital and my surgery and pre-assessment are at Leeds St James. I have never dealt with Leeds St James and don't know what their admin is like, including their sending letters capability.
I am also having a problem with the wiring in my house and need to know when I can be home to let the electrician in and would like to be able to know what day I will have to take off working this week to go to my appt (I work at home), since it's my last week before my operation.
Update. Got a call from the gyn/onc' secretary and my surgery has been postponed to Wednesday. It seems that there is a patient scheduled that day who needs a specialist surgeon that only works on Mondays, so they bumped me. She asked me if I could come in either this Wednesday (day after tomorrow) or next Wednesday, and I told them I wouldn't be able to do it day after tomorrow (work responsibiities, electrician coming, etc.) She is going to call me with the preop date.
Gosh how stressing as if it's not stressful enough keep chasing this as you pre/op needs to be done a week before. Try not to worry to much. Xxx
What's annoying is that they didn't contact me right after they made all the calls asking people to voluntarily change their surgery date - when obviously no one would. If they knew weeks ago that they would have to reschedule, why did they wait until I called asking about my preop appointment? If I hadn't called, when were they planning to notify me?
Hi Astropuppy
Your emotions must be going through the roof.
I was about to reply to your post above and tell you to contact PALS, they are very good at sorting things out but you have been contacted. I do hope your pre-op gets sorted out for you.

You know, when I had my consultation with the gyn/onc in mid-March, he had actually booked me in a couple of weeks after, for the middle of March, and I told him I couldn't do it, thinking I didn't want to leave my clients with a good impression, finishing up my projects and not leaving them in the lurch, so my surgery was moved to April.
Now that I've turned down two additonal earlier appointments - the one for this Friday and the one for this Wednesday, I'm wondering if I've been approaching things the wrong way and should just take the first appointment that comes along, even if it means just throwing things in my bag, heading off to hospital and forgetting about my other responsiblities.
I have no experience with surgery on the NHS.
I meant I didn't want to leave my clients with a bad impression.
It depends on your own personal circumstances, for me it has happened so quickly and as this fibroid is growing and growing I won't it out now. You have to put your own health first before clients that was the problem with me I spent so much time rushing around working hard I almost forgot about my own health putting everyone else first is not the answer. If I had done something two years ago I would not be in this state of having a 18 cm fibroid.
I don't really won't a hysterectomy but my surgeon has told me it is my only option. Just rem to star putting yourself first and stop worrying about pleasing everyone im not telling you to take the first appointment but I am advising you to put your health first I know I go on a bit hope it helps. Xxx
Hi Astropuppy
I have to admit if I were you I would just grab the first appointment and get it over with. You obviously need this surgery urgently and most people would understand. Sometimes you have to put yourself first. If you are fixed and A1 after recovery you will do a far better job for your clients, so go for it, you are important. The more you cancel the dates the further down the list you are going.
Good luck

Depends if I can convince my husband to cancel his jobs because he needs to drop me off and take me home.
Actually, the secretary said she would let me know today about the new pre--op date but she never called me. I left another message with the nurses' station. Hope they aren't postponing again.
Hi Astropuppy
Email PALS and get them to find out what is happening. You can find their email address on your hospital website. They seem to move mountains so give them a shot.
Have you got a friend who could perhaps take you to the hospital, you usually have to be in fairly early so they could do it before going to work etc? Or perhaps get a hospital car laid on, for the cost of a few pounds. Worth a shot anyway.
Good luck

I got the number of the secretary so I will call her first thing tomorrow am and if I don't have a confirmed preop date will email pals.
No. I have no one but my husband. My family are not in the UK.
Also, we live in York and they are making me go to Leeds for surgery, which we did not expect.
Hi Astropuppy
Quite a delimma you have, if you contact PALS, as them if they can recommend a hospital car service, worth a try. Good luck, hope it works out for you. Let me know how you get on.

Well, hopefully hubs will be able to drive me. I know he wants to be with me before I go in for my surgery. We haven't spent a night apart in 10 years.
Hi Astropuppy
That is just like us, we have not spent a night apart in 14 years, until my op. When my husband had heart surgery in Spain, (they expect family to stay with them) I slept in his hospital bed with him! I quite understand you want to be with your husband before the op. Hubby and I spent all night texting each other (I could not sleep because the buzzers were going non-stop), we were like kids, but it was fun.
Really hope it works out for you.

Well, it's working out so far. Had my assessment today (arranged by phone; no time to get a letter.) I also got the surgery appointment letter today. I'm kind of worried because it says to call before leaving for hospital to check if beds are available. Hope after all this it doesn't get cancelled due to no beds.
Glad you have date now at least you can plan around that I have heard of people having to wait a few days extra before op due to shortage of beds. My hospital have not ask me to phone them on Friday I'm just to term up at 8am.
I had my final blood test this morning in case I need a blood tranfusion will keep everyone informed and post Tom. When's your date Hun? Xxx
Hi Astropuppy
Great you have had your assessment. I know it is nerve racking ringing up on the morning before you go in, I was more nervous about making sure the bed was available than the op. I will keep everything crossed for you.

Hi Astropuppy
Good luck for tomorrow. Hope you are first down, much less nerve racking. You will soon be joining us advising all the ones waiting for their ops. I will be thinking of you tomorrow. Let me know how you get on.
Try and get a good night's sleep. You wil be fine.
