This is the best, i have had mine in now for two and a half years and would not consider changing to anything else. I feel that this is the best form of contraceptive if you have a busy lifestyle and forget to take pills, you only have to make the one appointment every three years barring the check on the implant after insertion which for me was two weeks after (Wound Check). Its great not having to worry and you can totally forget about it and get on with life.

I took the Depot Injection for one year and ceased to do so February '04 but have still as yet not seen sight of my cycle. To make matters worse I have always been 7st 7lbs and apart from pregnacy have never has a weight gain. I am now 9stone feeling constantly ill with pain, acne and depression. Please advise how I can lose the weight and gain my self confidence or will this not happen until my cycle finally returns, I have never been so bloated in all my days/Please advise.SJ

I used Deppo for 3 years, then stopped (wishing to have another baby) it took 1 year from stopping to restart my cycle, and then a further year to concieve - so 2 years in all to get pregnant! My first 2 children were concieved in the 1st month of trying.
So I would say to bear this in mind if you are considering this very safe method of contraception in between children.

I have had the implant in since april 2005 and have been having irregular and heavy bleeding ever since. I was lucky in the fact that my periods used to be light and I had the implant fitted as I regularly forgot to take the pill. I am now considering having the implant taken out as I have had 3 periods in the last month alone each lasting 1 week! I know that in each individual that it is different but I certainly wouldn't have one put in again so it's back to the pill for me, that way at least i know i will only get 1 period a month instead of 3!

I have had the implant now for over a year. I was on the injection for about 5 years before, but with my terrible memory, i used to always turn up a week or so late to get it! Nightmare! As the injection had stopped my bleeding for all of that time i just presumed that the implant would do the same, i had been warned that this may not be the case.
The first 6 months were fine, no bleeding, but i suppose that the injection may still have been in my system. Then it started, bit of a shock, as i said i hadn't had a period for 5 years, and i had to learn all over again where the sanitary aisle was in tescos!
That was about 10 months ago, and i'm still bleeding! And i don't mean a week on 3 weeks off. Except for 2 weeks about 5 months ago i have been bleeding solidly the whole time! I just hope it stops! Other than that every thing seems to be fine. Did find myself getting a bit emotional when the bleeding first started, you know crying at the tetley tea advert and stuff, but i found that evening primrose oil seems to sort that out.
Oh and my boobs are huge! I've put on a little bit of weight, about a stone, but i think half of that has gone in my bra! I'm not complaining about them but when i get out of the car and close the door they get in the way! And when they're tender anyway, shutting a car door on them kinda hurts!

I used the injection for about three years. The only side affect i got was a sneezing fit and itchy body for about 1 hour after the injection, however i took a piriton tablet 45 mins before and this subsided. My period returned two weeks after i stopped having the injection, however i then had one every two weeks after that and became slightly anaemic. It has taken about 3 months for my cycle to return to normal. I found the depo to be the best form of contraception i have used to date, and would recomend trying it.

I had the Implanon put in 5 months ago and I am having it removed in less than 2 hours time. I can't wait.
For the past 5 months I have had 3 periods, all lasting between 4-7 weeks. The implanon was supposed to be a way for my boyfriend and I to get intimate without all the hassles of condoms/the pill. But our sex life has been non-existent for the last 5 months, and I have put on almost a stone in weight.
My breasts hurt a lot of the time, and I had frequent headaches. The Implanon sounded like a good idea at first, and obviously some lucky people don't get any side effects. I guess you really have to try it to find out if it's right for you.
The bad thing is probably going to be the scar that's left behind once it's been removed. But I'm looking forward to losing that 10lbs I put on.

I have taken the depo injection since i was 17, I am 32, thats a long time. I haven't had a period for 15 years, bliss.. I have no side effects, no negative points to tell you about. Its great.
I have read some horror stories, like you do with all medications, but different people react to different things.. But mine is a positive one. No heavy periods, no bad tummy cramps. Superb.
I have been told it can take up to 2 years for my cycle to come back tho, but I'm in no rush to have children yet so thats fine.
:ok: :ok:

Well I've had my implant for almost 2 years now and its been great for me. I was on the injection for at least 5 years before that, and though I had no problems with the inj. I often work away and that made it difficult at times. At first the only significant difference was the soreness in my boobs. These aren't exactly small, so the pain can almost bring tears to my eyes, but I tend to just battle on. Never had periods whilst on my injection and this continued the same for the first 10 months, then at new year, this year that all changed. Was regular for aound 5 months, kinda thought 'this isn't too bad, whats all the fuss about?.' Then since then have missed a couple of months, 9 day period, missed another couple of months and now on day 21 of this period! Will it ever end??? Really hoping its all going to settle down again soon, because other than this recent blip the implant has been great for me. No weight gain, or mood swings, well none more than normal! Will certainly consider this again, when my 3 years are up!

Since I had it put in 18 months ago I have had frequent on again off again periods until recently when I've had my period for 7 weeks. I am getting it out. I also put on 9 kilograms, this is not cool.
Thanks for all your comments I was scared stiff about what was wrong.

I WAS ON THE DEPO INJECTION FOR NEARLY TWO YEARS AND FOUND IT A FANTASTIC METHOD OF BIRTH CONTROL. MY PERIODS STOPPED THE DAY AFTER MY FIRST INJECTION AND I NEVER HAD ONE TILL ONE MONTH AFTER I FINISHED THE INJECTIONS. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO CONCEIVE SINCE THIS TIME AND A YEAR DOWN THE LINE AND STILL TRYING, ALTHOUGH I FEEL WORSE THAN BEFORE I STARTED THE INJECTION, MY PERIODS ARE IRREGULAR PAINFUL FOR THREE WEEKS A MONTH, IM MOODY, AND GENERALLY FEEL HORRIBLE, MY STOMACH IS TWICE THE SIZE AS NORMAL. I WOULDNT RECOMMEND IF YOU PLAN ON TRYING FOR KIDS IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

I was on the depo injection for about one year during that time I put on around 2stone! I have never felt so bloated in my whole life and wish that I had never tried the depo! I really would not recomend it to anyone!

It feels great knowing there are so many implanon users, until today I only knew 1 other person with it!! I have been with my man for 7 years, and changed from the injection to the implant 2 yrs ago. I didn’t have periods at all on the jab, but it was awkward getting time off to go to the Drs regularly, so this seemed ideal, especially with the immediate return to fertility when its removed.
The first year was fine, but into year 2 I started to get occasional periods, now though my sex drive has entirely disappeared. I don’t know if this is related to the implant or if other lifestyle changes are the cause, so I will be speaking to my nurse soon. As a contraceptive the injection is great, if you aren’t worried about your weight. I have put on about a stone, but again I have a very sedentary lifestyle, and over the last 2 months have lost most of it anyway.
I haven’t had sore breasts or any other problems, I’ve always suffered from moodswings and I think if anything, the implant has stopped me swinging from Jekyll 2 hyde as much as I was. Thankfully my man is understanding about the lack of sex, but today I will be speaking to the FP nurse to see if there is any remedy for the sex drive. If not it’l be back to depo-provera to save my lovelife. I never thought I’d be celibate in my 20’s!!!
It works for some, and it is damn easy, I can wear white whenever I want, so I would still recommend the implant to others, but of course with the warnings of weight gain and loss of libido.

Thank you for putting something positive on this site! I am 32 and have experience problems with every method of birth control I have ever tried including bleeding whilst on the pill and hideous bleeding when I had an IUD. I had a depo injection yesterday for the first time - unless i try I will never know if it will work for me or not. My doctor pointed out the advantages and disadvantages and feels that the breakthrough bleeding will be no worse than what I have been experiencing with the pill so it is worth a try. Whilst looking on the web this morning all I have found is negative comments until I found this site. I guess people are quick to complain but very rarely take the time to mention positives.
Has anybody experienced bleeding on the pill and then tried the depo?

I had the Implanon strip fitted in October 2003 and after an initial month or two of "settling in", I can truely say it has been the best form of contraception for me. It doesnt hurt to put in (no pain that I can remember). The only uncomfort I had was for apprx 1 week after when I woke up in the morning having to stretch out my arm which went after a second or two. Whilst on the normal form of pill i suffered weight gain, swollen breasts, mood swings, bad period paid etc...
Now i'm on the strip I have not really had a period since Oct 2003!! (which is ace!!), probably 3 times just had a light bleeding (like when I went on holiday, how typical!!). I do still get tired and slightly swollen body/breasts around when my period should be but never have a period. I have not really gained in weight, if any, weight has stabalised considerably as I am very prone to weight gain on normal pill and now have loads more energy to go to the gym/swimming etc which never had before. Moods are excellent, am pleased to say I am back to my happy bubbly self not some miserable grumpy moo! And it doesnt effect my sex drive like the pill did! (ha ha).
I know it affects different people in different ways but I am truely happy with it and hope it works for you too. :-) :ok:

I have had my implant now for two years exactly. It has not been too bad, my periods have never really been regulard since I had it put in, but they were not really that regular before. I do get really bad period pains and it is not just one period a month, it can sometimes be two. My boobs are really tender, although not as bad as they were a couple of weeks ago, and I have got quite bad acne now. Other than that, it is a godsend and I have had no problems with it. My only concern now is in a year's time when they take it out, I am not exactly looking forward to that bit and am not sure what will be in store for me after that with regards to contraception. We will just have to wait and see...:D:?

I got my Implanon put in February 2005, for the first 5 or 6 months my period was bad. I use to get really heavy bleeding, but this was very weird.... It was lasting for 2 weeks, off for 1 week and back on again.
The thought crossed my mind, whether to get it removed or not. I hung in for a while just to see what would happen. I came down with the flu, diahorrea, vomiting, dehydration, depression, and really bad mood swings, all at the same time. After all this passed through my system (about 10 panadeen fort tablets later), I had a bit of spotting for a few weeks, and then nothing.
Since then I have not had my period at all, nothing, not a drop!!
But i have however gained at least 3 kilograms, which i cannot get rid of!! I am affraid that I wont be able to get rid of this weight for another 2 years, when i get my implanon taken out.:ill:
