are ct scans reliable for diagnosing appendicitis?

not yet. im going to the doctors tomorrow

That's good. Will you be able to take someone with you? Sometimes it's hard for ourselves to speak up for ourselves. Thinking of you tomorrow and hoping you get to the bottom of all this.

the doctor didn't wanna do the blood test because i had a white cell count of 10.7 so he thinks that makes me fine lol what a joke anyways i was very firm and demaded a full more in depth blood check up he finally agreed to do it. getting the esr test dunno if he put that other one in. hopefully get results in 3 days and hopefully wont end up in hospital again before then. so frustrated because i have no idea what is causing all this.

Well done, good for you! Hopefully you'll get some answers soon, rooting for you...

got my blood results everything came back fine except in my iron studies my ferritin is 314 when its meant to be 20-250 doctor was like do you eat alot of meat i said no. he said just to get retested in 3 weeks im like ummmm okay. i have no idea what it even means.

Too much iron is most often caused by an inherited disease called hemochromatosis. Many people with this disease never have any symptoms, especially women who lose iron through menstruation. But men and some women slowly build up excess iron over the years. They may begin to feel joint and abdominal pain in their 20s or 30s. Heavy alcohol use increases the amount of iron that is absorbed.

I was wondering about that condition too, Faye. In the UK the treatment would be to remove blood, almost like 'giving blood' as the only way to get the iron out of one's body. Matie if this is what you've got, it needs your attention, as it can seriously affect your heart...Don't want to distress you, just so you know, in case that's what it is...Okay, I'll just say it! My brother had a massive high iron levels, drank heavily for years and suffered a sudden fatal heart attack in December. He refused to get a repeat blood test. He was only 45. This is why I was also wondering about this condition. How old are you, Matie?

im only 28. i was a heavy drinker but quit 3 weeks ago so sober now. my level is high but dunno if its serious high anyways im gonna keep an eye on it ill get retested in about 2 weeks do you know much about ferritin levels ? how do i lower it.

nevermind just read mine could be high because i have a fatty liver. i guess my main concern is still if i have appendicitis my abdomen pain seems to have calmed down and nearly stopped for 3 days and im eating normal again. also my wbc has lowered down alot. would you say i can safely rule that out now ?

heya just wanted to say thanks for all the info. i still have the pain on my right side and pretty horrid symptoms but seeing a gastro doc atm who think not appendix because its been going on for over a month. i did have elevated wbc at one point but thats dropped and my cpr is 2 so theu are saying it normal. they also ended up doing another ct but couldnt find the appendix which they said is a good sign because if something sinister was going on it would show. i am now trying to stop thinking about it and its hard because the pain is pretty bad and so on but surgeons and doctors are not to worried sp gotta listen to them i guess.

Here's my story: I was at a sporting event (watching), when all of the sudden, I felt like 5 people were stabbing me, I couldn't sit, stand or lay to find any comfort. I called my mom to come pick me up (I am 15 and do not have my license yet). I got into the car and started screaming. I didn't know what was happening, but there was a sharp pain in the center of my abdomen. My mom wanted to take me to the ER right then, but I told her I wanted to wait and see if the pain went away. It didn't leave, but it did move it's way over to the right side of my abdomen, and I kept feeling extremely nauseous. A day later at 4 in the morning, I finally let my mom take me to the ER. The first ER doctor told me I had "textbook appendicitis" and all we would need was a CT scan and the surgeons would take it out as soon as possible. They gave me a CT and they saw a small appenicolith and enlarged lymph nodes, but... they decided to wait until the next morning to make the ultimate decision and run a few tests to see if things got worse. So, they admitted me into the hospital, and I stayed the night. The next morning, they didn't see anything strange in my labs, so they really had no reason to take it out. No fever, no weird blood cell counts, and they honestly didn't know what to do with me. So, again, they had me spend the night. The next morning, I was feeling a little better, and they told me that it could be a number of things; ovarian cyst, mesenteric adnitis, and a few other things. They said that if it was mesenteric adnitis, that it would go away in less than 2 weeks. That day they sent me home. The day after that, I had the same sharp pain in my lower right abdomen, and since then, it hasn't gone away. I would go to appointments with my pediatrician and she would ask if things had gotten better, and each time, my answer was no. Every morning, I wake up sick and lean over the toilet and gag for around 15 minutes, and I'm always in pain, but some days it's a lot worse than others, and around 4 times a week, I will have a massive amount of pain for a few hours straight, then it dies down. A few weeks ago I had my first appointment with a GI specialist where he told me that he wanted another CT scan, and brought up a few things he thought it could be (mesenteric adnitis being one of them). I then was confused, saying that the doctors in the ER had told us mesenteric adnitis would last 2 weeks at most, and it has been A LOT longer than 2 weeks. He then told me he has seen it last up to a year and a half, and that it was a possibility that I had it. A day or so after that appointment, I was having really bad extreme pain, and I thought it would die down in an hour or so, but it didn't. It had been 2 days of the extreme pain with no relief, when I told my mom I needed to go to the ER. I went. They preformed another CT scan, and this time found nothing wrong with the appendix, but still enlarged lymph nodes. It's been a few weeks since the ER visit, and since then I have taken a serious turn for the worse. I also had a colonoscopy (that I should be getting the results back any day from). My doctor who did it, said that he didn't think he saw anything, but he sent it in to the labs to get it looked at. If nothing is found in the scope, they told me I would be diagnosed with mesenteric adnitis. I don't know what to do, I can barley function at school and haven't been able to go to a full day in 2 weeks.

This was a few months ago, and I ended up being diagnosed with mesenteric adnitis (after 3 and a half months of dealing with this) My mother, however, did not listen to the diagnosis and went to a sergon and had my appendix taken out. They tested it, and it came back positive for appendisidis. They re checked my second CT and saw that the radiologists had missed the two stones inside of my appendix. There are many cases of chronic appendisidis where there is nothing seen on the CT scans. I never ran a fever, threw up (though i was nausous).

I would think about getting it removed, if possible

Best of luck. None of this stuff is fun
