I have been taking those from a trusted and good source for about 3 weeks, but I have not seen much improvement with my PMR symptoms. They are lemon flavored and agreeable, but they contain oils from sardines. I could be allergic to those. Has anybody tried these kind of Omega capsules?
Have bee taking Krill oil for over nine months and have seen a remarkable improvement in knee joints which I severely damaged about six years ago. If I stop taking the Krill for a few days I definitely get very creaky and unstable. I don't think this would have much effect on muscular discomfort though... Only on joints and synovial inflammation .
Christine has a good answer, and I would agree with her that fish oil is beneficial for joints. The Omega 3 fatty acid is recommended in our diet, but one can get it easily by eating salmon 2 or 3 times a week.
The internet does explain that there can be side effects with fish oil capsules.......my stomach has not been right every since. "Back to the drawing board"! :-) Thanks for your input. Erika
I take glucosamine and chondroitin and a variety of oils. I'm not expecting any great improvement but I try to stay positive and do something for myself.
not done fish oil thing BUT. for the last 3 weeks i have been on chia seeds. and i noticed a big reduction in the pain i have been tolerating. is it just a coincidence
i ask myself. or is the pain receeding naturaly. so went onto the net , and it does say its full of protine vit d and other stuff, it would be interesting to read what eileen and mrs o think. they are an easy thing to use. i put them in my cereal sprinkle over my salad in yoghurt no taste at all.
its me again, i forgot to say for 10 years i took celery seed when started with knee pain, and i never had anymore pain, but i stopped when going on pred in case it was going to mess with the pred. now i do have knee pain as i a going down on the pred so should i go back onto celery seed. i do take adalat
for cholestral. benzaflourazide and pravistatin for bp. otherwise i feel ok down to 2 pred. and pain subsideing but like i just said is it the chia seed or pain going anyway PHEW!
I'm not sure why a post of mine was removed recently when an enquiry was made about complimentary treatment for GCA but serrapeptase is the latest to be doing the rounds for artery health.
Erica, if you have eaten sardines before without any allergic reaction, then why not stick to eating the sardines themselves, plus other Omega 3-containing oily fish such as mackerel, salmon and trout, including them in your diet about 3 times a week.
It was probably because alternative therapies have their own forum and are not encouraged on other forums. This site in general was set up by mainstream doctors as a source of information for other doctors and is very strictly moderated. Last time I looked there was no mainstream support for serrapeptase - it has been asked about before. There are a lot of things out there claiming to be cures of all sorts of things with no real controlled study evidence.
Pauline, Chia seeds, like oily fish, contain omega 3, and I'm not surprised to hear that they might be helping you. I found incuding plenty of oily fish in my diet eased my pain and stiffness during my PMR/GCA days - not a cure but a difference. If I missed these foods out of my diet for any length of time, I would notice a difference.
As far as the celery seeds are concerned, why not eat the celery?
I notice that you are being treated for raised cholesterol Be careful with the Chia if you have high triglycerides as I found the following listed side effect :
High triglycerides: Blood contains several types of fat, including cholesterol and triglycerides. Triglyceride levels are too high in some people. Eating some types of chia can make them even higher. If you have high triglycerides, stick with using a specific variety of chia called Salba. Salba does not significantly increase triglyceride levels.
As with all supplements, before taking always check with a good pharmacist for any possible interactions with steroids.
Mrs O, i am drinking pro active for to lower cholestral, my last test was 7.5 but doctor said my diet was good so did not want me on tablets. thank you.
Mrs.O, thank you for your input. I have eaten sardines before, and they did not agree well with me.. I have to be extremely careful with any kind of shell fish, which sardines are not. I will start omitting the fish oil capsules as of today for a while. I do eat salmon and use flax seed oil for baking and cooking which should be plenty of omega 3 essential oils.
Margaret, my cholesterol is around 7.1. I have tried Flora Pro-Active but it seemed to upset my bowel a little so I stopped it. I guess it's due to the plant sterols it contains, but I suppose I could try another of the so-called cholesterol lowering drinks to see whether they have a similar side effect on me. As long as your HDL (good) cholesterol level is high enough and your LDL (bad) cholesterol is low enough, they generally don't worry too much about the overall cholesterol figure. I was asked by my GP how I felt about starting statins to lower my cholesterol - I think the look on my face gave her my answer! Keep eating the oily fish!
Ah well, Erica, stay away from sardines if you know they disagree with you. However, if you are able to eat salmon, perhaps you could also eat trout and mackerel?
