Hi I've just been described Citalopram and my GP didn't mention anything about having alcohol with it, but the information leaflet says you must not drink whilst taking it. Does anyone have any other information?
I asked my doc and he said a couple wouldn't do any harm
All anti depressants carry advice that you shouldn't drink while taking them. Alcohol is a depressant and it is possible that it can increase some of the side effects from Citalopram. The reality is probably that most GP's realise many people will still have a drink.
That said, I drank while I was on Citalopram and it made not a jot of difference BUT everyone reacts differently to these meds and some people have reported problems. My advice if you are going to drink would be to take it easy and give yourself a chance to see how your system reacts to it.
Regards.
Obviously this is only my personal experience but pre-citalopram I used to have unbearable hangovers but since taking them I fing I'm much more alive the day following a good few drinks.
As for at the time of drinking, I feel the Alchohol gets me tidily a little quicker than before but have had no negative 'reaction' as such.
