After my recent revision only after 8 months after the original, failing surgery, I find that my arm, mainly my right arm when I sleep on my left (good) side goes numb. I have to get up in the middle of the night and hang it down and shake it of course to get the blood flowing and make it wake up. I can't even reach over and turn off my lamp after reading my book. I've always been a side sleeper, but now, even if I'm on my good side for over 2 hours, my right arm is as if it's not even there. Have any of you experienced this? It's very disconcerting. I'm not thinking blood clots in my arm when my hips and legs are most threatened.
Thank You,
Judy in Memphis
Are you used to sleeping on your left side?
When I had numbness like that a few years ago it was a problem with my lower neck vertebrae. I have severe arthritis in them and the spine surgeon wants to replace them.
You might need to change your pillow to a softer one, especially if you are using a memory foam pillow with the big roll at the bottom edge.
Thank you Tiffany. I have always slept on my left side, same pillows. But will check out the possible neck situation. Thank you.
I have the same but it is due to spinal stenosis. Sometimes we have one pain or problem that masks another and when the previous one gets repaired, the latter one becomes apparent. Call the doc.
Wow!
I get that too, never thought about it too much, but I don't think I had it before surgery.
I am now 2 years 4 months post surgery, so I don't think it's blood clots, maybe a lowered blood pressure?
I use a memory pillow, with an added very hard bolster (my wife says it's like a draught excluder) for neck support as I had problems with my neck well before the hip problems.
