I fell down the stairs 5 weeks ago and was unable to weight bare. I went to A&E they didn't X-ray just pressed around my foot and said it was ligament damage. After a week I was able to stand but now it still hurts I get pain in my calf and when I press around my ankle it's painful. I work long shifts and when I get home my foot is swollen. Could I have a fracture or could this be due to the ligament damage?
The A&E doctos know what they're talking about they have seen many before and dealing with these cases everyday. You need to be resting the foot/ankle not working with it, let it heal.
Did they give you any bandages ?
If it was a fracture you would not be able to stand, it would be very painful.
I no the doctors know what they are taking about. when I hurt my foot the right side of my right foot the pain was unbearable but the pain around the left side of my ankle not as bad. The reason I'm asking really is because the right side where I damaged my ligament seems fine but it's my bone on the left side that's troubling me.
I wasn't given any bandages, they did say it didn't need strapping up just elevating & use hot and cold treatment. I have bought a support for it tho when I'm working.
I'll give it a few more weeks...
+ you can have a fracture and be able to stand on it.
you can get these same symptoms if you twisted, dislocated it or damaged your ligament but if its really bothering you see if you can get an x-ray. If the GP will not refer you, you might be lucky to get one in A&E (even they usually dont do on demand tasks from patients), if you can persuade them
