Hi all. Yesterday I went to hospital, my theatre slot was 4.45pm - I had to strip off, put those revolting backless gowns on, sponge slippers, had a huge black arrow on my right leg, & then had my 5 minutes in the theatre for the aspiration. For those of you that put my mind at rest re saying I would have a local - you spoke with forked tongue! I had nothing - just the aspiration. My knee has never gone back to normal since the TKR 9 months ago & is hyper sensitive, & I HATE needles, so yes, it hurt! ANyway, I coped, I now have to contact his secretary in a week for the results, & a likely time frame re the revision. And so it goes on..............
Veronica
Big hugs Veronica. Lets hope you are soon on the up. x
I am now 14 weeks TKR. BACKat work. It been ojay except when I walk. It hurt and I hop and sway. I usrd yo be a faster walker. But now its close to a crawl. This is just after two day of work. Jalisha f this keeps up I'm contacting my Dr. Still exercising and doin g PT because of knee not straight.
I think you should go to see the doc Janice. I am 15 weeks in and it doesn't hurt when I walk. I am slow but that is because my other knee is now complaining. Let us know how you get on.
hi veronica i may be thick but im not sure what a aspiration of the knee is!!!!! as i never heard of anyone having it ,ive had tkr in both and a revision in the last 2 yrs ive had keyhole MUA . but dont ever remember anything called that .
Oh heavens that sounds horrible. From now on, whatever I am going to have done, I amgoing to think carefully about all the questions to ask, and answers which I want! it is not good enough just to expect people to accept high levels of pain because they don't want to bother with pain control. I;ve heard of people having bone biopsies with nothing more than a spray to deaden the skin . .well, that doesn't deaden the bone! When my husband had a bone biopsy, he didn't even know they had done it until I pointed out the plaster on his hip bone! It's not acceptable and Veronica, you have already had to suffer too much. I'm glad it's over for you now. . . . well, one small step of it!
Good grief....are those people practicing medicine or witchcraft? I would have pitched a major fit if they came close to me without reading it 1st. Nothing like having a turkey baster sized needle rammed to the bone. Next time you see them ask to have a license displayed so you can believe they went to a real medical and not just sat in on a rite being performed by the most remote jungle tribes medicine man.......no offense to the jungle tribesmen. Glad it's all behind you and hope you rea)y start healing nicely now.
I went for my 6 week checkup. All seems well except for some slight drainage pprobably caused by the width of the incision and the number of x's the leg has been reopened. As a precaution he is putting me on a weeks worth of antibiotics and daily betadine swabs. With my history of infection he is very cautious
It's where they insert (quite a large) needle in various lumpy places on your knee, drain fluid off (he asked if I wanted to see it, I declined) for testing for infections. If it's infected, it means major problems, involving opening up/inserting a spacer filled with antibiotics, & immobilising the leg.
On the bright side, it may just be lumpy bits caused by nerve damage!
It only hurt for a short while, & I was gripping a nurses hand!
Veronica
He said he would have to stick a needle in in more than one place to give me a local anaesthetic, so it would be quicker if I agreed to just having the aspiration drawing needle in & have it over & done with. In those sort of situations, you have a sort of out of body experience, & watch the person in your body nodding OK!!!!
On the plus side, it was quick!
god veronica that sounds awful , yes i have two friends that had to have that spacer put it i hope its negative its not what anyone wants these infections are sooo awful thats one thing im grateful for after opening my leg totaly 3 times in a yr and a half that i didnt get one !! i soo hope you are ok keep us posted x
