Asthma and anxiety fear

Hello,

Can someone tell me if a fear of asthma is common with health anxiety or is it just me? I’ve been having breathing difficulties my entire life and have felt short of breath literally everyday now. I have been to numerous doctors, urgent cares, and emergency rooms and had a ridiculous amount of lung function tests, chest X-rays, etc etc and no one can find anything wrong. I am struggling to even get out of bed in fear that I might have asthma and no one caught it and I’ll have attack and suffocate and die before someone can help me. I have been prescribed an inhaler but I’m pretty sure it was to just shut me up as I’m sure all the doctors are tired of listening to my breathing problems. I am a bit out of shape and do have some acid reflux, but I’m pretty sure health anxiety has induced those things. Can it induce asthma all of a sudden? If I don’t have it apparently? Thank you in advance.

Hi,

It sounds like you're anxious about having asthma so the feeling you have is maybe just a symptom of self awarness. It can also occour while having a panik attack. If the doctors say you don't have asthma, you don't. I know that feeling of not getting enough breath is very common when you're panicking. But mostly it's really only mental. I speak from experience. Try to learn some breathing techniques.

I wish you the best : )
