I have c4 to c7 disc prolapse i had a second epidural five weeks ago and since then ive had severe lower back pain and no relief from the injection which worked great for a few months the first time.I feel cold all the time and dizzy my back feels hot all the time and I have no appetite i cannot stand this pain any longer i have spondylisis for over 20 years but feel like i have an infection or something.I went to the docter 2 weeks ago and he prescribed lyrica which i am scared to take so just take codiene 30 mg.I cannot enjoy anything and feel depressed all the time can any one help.

What else have you tried apart from drugs and injection? Do you know when you slipped it?
I take Lyrica there's nothing to fear from it.

Hi Michelle, I really do feel for you. When did you have you scan? So are you saying that c4 to c7 means that you have 4 disc prolapses ?. If I'm right that would mean you have 4 disc's pressing your sciatic nerve?. So then why on earth hasn't your surgeon operated to give you relief ?. I constantly had epidurals when I had a disc prolapse but I'm afraid they never worked because the pressure on the sciatic nerve was so severe!!. The nerve is the thickest one in a human body. Try and get your g.p. to tell your specialist that something more has to be done if your epidurals aren't working, take someone with you who can back you up and put pressure on your doctor or specialist that something else must be done to elevate your horrendous pain! You probably need a microdisectomy - drugs unlikely to solve it; try Mckenzie exercises.
Hi davey thanks for your reply my surgeon did suggest surgery but i wanted to try the conservative route first.Have you had surgery did it work for you .

You may have an infection from the epidural. Go to your doctor .These injections are only designed to give temp relief . They don't fix the disc problem, personally I think it's a waste of time and money and is also quite a risky procedure for very little relief. They say if you've suffered more than 8 wks, with no relief after other methods then an operation should be offered . They only normally operate if you loose feeling are mobility in limbs . But it should not have to get that bad . If the pain we suffer cause us to have a very poor quality of life . Then a apparently it should be offered. All hospital s have s pals complaint email address, I've used mine 3 times and they have been fantastic. With one complaint seeing me referred for a MRI with in 5 days. I am now at a private hospital via my doctor as that's where one of the top neurosurgeon are. We all have a right to choose we're to be seen even if it's a private hospital via the nhs . Good Luck
Thankyou jessica i was thinking it might be an infection myself.I was in tolerable pain before I had it done but in neck and shoulders ive been to the docters just gave me lyrics.I think I will go to a and e not getting anywhere.
Did yr doctor even take yr temperature or bloods that would of been a starter .

At least your getting some where all good. I have my injection tomorrow in my spine , bricking it , remember last one 4 year ago made me feel ill x

Hi jessica. I pray that it goes well. Is this a cortisol steroid injection? Are they painful?
unfortunatly they are and dont always work and if they do its not for long, believe me it will be last, iam only going a head so the consultant cant say i did not try.
