Today I told my knee (14 days post tkr) to raise, guess what it did !! to say I am gob smacked is a total understatement.
My scar and the area around it is hypersensitive even sheets on it are agony, it feels scalded. any ideas anyone? how did you all cope with it ?it seems every day brings some new torture !!
That sort of pain sounds a bit like nerve pain, rather than related to the cut itself. . I described the pain as a cross between burning and the flesh being ripped off! Not nice at all . In my case the pain didn't last long,(thank heavens) but the numbness persists and the occasional 'electric shock' . .(thirteen weeks)
Oh Dotty your off yay !!! No stopping you know well done now just talk to the leg each hour and say rise leg it's your strength now that will keep up the good work...I do ten lifts every hour I get the electric shocks and the leg jumping but it's all the mending inside well done dotty
It's something we have all had and has to be endured on and off for a while, even at 20 weeks. It's all part of the healing process.
Hi Dotty I have a little plastic step that I put over my knee when im in bed and it holds the sheets off my knee so maybe look for something similar??? It sounds odd but it really works!!!!
Well done dotty knew you would get there
My nurse said to massage the leg before you go to bed which makes the leg slippy/shiny and material does not annoy it ? I did this before I went out and I wore jeans and it was not sore? Mind you I have not had a problem with this feeling since I have had the staples out, so, either I have been lucky or the Bio oil works?
I struggled with pain like that too. Mine was nerve damage (I had to have a second surgery 3 days later as my wound burst). Mine improved from 3 weeks post (almost at 8 now). I found I could tolerate light cotton pj bottoms initially so I was able to protect it from the bedsheets or keep my leg out of them (I was in hospital for a few weeks though so it was warm). Parts are still numb and I do still get the occasional burning pain but mostly it's just general aches now.
Mine is exactly the same, the numbness and what feels like electric shock.i had my op on nov5th.
Looks as if I have a long way to go then! I have to say I'm beginning to think it may be permanent . . .
The leg is totaly ignoring me this morning ( I guess the muscles are tired) I am going to try singing to it instead ! The op has sent me slightly potty ! Truthfully I am a sane person !
Actually it sounds really good my daughter has alittle step which I think will do it,many thanks
why oh why will my leg not obey when it did as it was told yesterday ? very frustrating
I still have elephant leg so no way will my jeans go on ! I have bio oil but not sure about using it yet as I still have scaby bits but I can see the logic in what you say, so I will give it a go asap. Many thanks
I also had problems will staple failure so maybe the problem is related to that ? Its good to know yours improved at 3 weeks as I am 15 days so hopefully in a few days it will pass, many thanks
Yes mine is the little step my grand children use for the sink and loo lol
I know exactly the sensation you are talking about Dotty. For 3 weeks after my surgery I could not let even a sheet touch my knee. I found that keeping the sheet off of it and putting a fan on low directed at the knee worked wonderfully! I began to massage the area around my incision with lotion after 3 weeks. I was glued, no staples. The massaging helped ease the burning sensation and I was able to tolerate the sheet after just 3 days of this. I'm 4 weeks now and am wearing leggins. I still have numbness on the outer side of the knee but my therapist says this can last months. I'm jot complaining as numb means no pain in that area! Hang in there. Pain meds at night, don't forget those!
