I have had Menieres for 2 years with tinnitus, deafness in left ear, dizziness and episodes of spinning with vomiting.
Last Friday, hanging washing on the line, next thing on the floor having had a "drop" attack resulting in a visit to A&E covered in blood ,with a head wound. I cracked my head on the garden concrete path.
I am now afraid to go out on my own in case it should happen again.
Am taking Betahistine and Stemetil 3 times a day.
I am due to go on holiday in 2 weeks time.Has anyone experienced "drops" and is it likely to happen again?
Hi Janice, I can so empathise with you, yes I have many drop attacks, if you start having them you may get them again but you may not.Like you I became too scared to go out on my own. I do have have another condition that can also cause this so not sure which causes them but it's horrible anyway. I had Vertigo attacks that would keep me in bed, sometimes for a couple of weeks. Eventually I had treatment on my ear, first a Grommet then that didn't work so I had Gentimycin treatment. It's stopped them now and I really hope they never come back! See if your Doctor will change your tablets to SERC tablets, they are the same as Betahistine but it's something to do with how they're made. Sounds crazy but I got this information from the Menieres Society lol. Good luck and have a lovely holiday.
I too suffer drop attacks and have been in A&E a few tiimes, I had a grommet and gentamicin injection in my right ear for the second time, just got to wait now and see if they stop. The vertigo hasn't, like you I can't go out on my own, but you must not let it ruin your life, just be self aware. Go on your holiday and have a relaxing time.
Hello Janice, my name is Dan, I was told for twenty years I had Menieres. My partner talked me into trying the V.A. -- I was getting close to quittiing. I was having drop attacks three or four times a week.
The V.A. did a EEG. This is a brain scan. I did not have Menieres - I had brain seizures. This can be treated. I no longer have any problems. I take two different meds. for the seizures. If you have not had a brain scan go get one. I wish you well. I know how bad this mess is. Good luck Dan.
