attack lasting over a week now!

Is anyone else suffering this week? This attack has lasted all week. Still have poor balance and heavy head.

I take 32mg betahistine now and amitryptiline at night. I was doing OK until the awful attack last Sunday.

Feel so down, and with it being Xmas week...I just keep hoping it will settle...

Hi miss kent hope you feel better soon. I was like that for seven weeks in the summer, then when I was looking online I came across a web site that said about menieres and to take these vitamins and minerals. Calcium, very strong muti vitamins and minerals, high vitamin c, grape seed and ginkgo. I started to take them the end of sept and since then my attacks have got less frequent. Touch wood I haven't had an attack for 31 days which is bloody good for me and I feel so healthy, no heavy head, balance seems ok, I feel human. These do work out expensive at first but as I said if they work I will find the money.

Hi misskent, feel so sorry for you, these attacks that last days rather than hours are really weird, for 10 years i was able to recover within a day by laying still for up to 12 hours, but then this November in turkey i also was hit for days, but it does go away just take it slowly rest up all day if necessary, dont let xmas stress you, those around you will have to support you and it will go, its physiologically impossible not to, keep in touch

Thanks for your reply. Its so hard although I have suffered for over 17yrs. It just takes it out of you when it goes on for so long. Hope you are feeling OK now? Enjoy Xmas.

I love this site for support as it is a silent disease which a lot of people just don't understand.

Thanks for your support. Worth trying? X

I am so sorry to hear that you are havingsuch a bad time with attacks.

my suggestion is as soon as you are able to get up, do so. Have a shower.. Get dressed. Go for a small walk outside, even around the garden, with a friend, if not confident, stop and breathe in the air. Get a little circulation happening and a different focus.

i know that sounds simple ..but it can help.

drink plenty of mineral water...high in magnesium. Not sparkling. Still.

tyr not to get in the attack anxiety anticipation mode... Where all you can think of is the next attack. Defoccus from that.

Stay away from eye strain,  keeo off computers and ipad and mobile phone..for a week! and dont watch tv, dont go near supermarkets and artificial light. Keep everything soft in the house too...this is just until you get a day free of menieres..take it easy on visual overload...get as relaxed as you can and like the others say...no salt, hydrate and look at vitamins. You know, the more you can relax the better.you will not be like this forever... Just take a quiet look at what is going on, keep a diary...see what triggers you have..there is light at the end of this tunnel.but first..dont spend ANY time on the computer !

Thank-you...getting off computer now!!!

Hi misskent. Some really good advice given, helps us all, thank you. I was better after a few weeks of the increase to 32mg of betahistine, a build up. Plus lifestyle has had to change. But the best thing of all has been the grommet+steroid end July and last week I had a further steroid injection. Touch wood I feel almost normal each day. My advice is to get appointment with hospital consultant and ask for this, listing how many attacks you've had, how long they last etc. Mine was 27 lasting avg 2hrs in 7 months and this got me the grommet. Avoid noise. Have a good Christmas. This phase won't last xx

Can you tell me which steroid injection you had? It doesnt affect hearing does it? As mine is really bad already.

Have a lovely xmas. x

Hi misskent, really really hope your feeling better, with regard to the injections if you go down these lines make sure you research all your options so thoroughly, as Menieres is still not understood properly any invasive surgery cannot be gaurenteed,as Ive said elsewhere get a copy of " Menieres Man and the astronaunt the self help book" the author is one of us and his words and advise are very interesting and comforting, like finding this website just to know your not alone raises your spirits and hope only by this site and the book did I realise that stuff like salt are catalyists and thats after 10 years of ignorance I honestly think that us sufferers are better equiped sharing our common knowledge with each other rather than our GPs etc anyhow let us know how you are X

The steroid is dextramethasone. Grommet done under general and the injection 'top up' on its own was quick local anaesthetic 4-5 mins in theatre. Virtually pain free. Not affected my hearing. I agree with comments on here, definitely sharing our personal knowledge is so helpful.

Thoughts go out for you right now.Yes, I also agree that undertaking an invasive procedures vs taking other apporaches is a difficult decision.

As far as I know, there hasnt been a consistant long term procedure that defines a cure, as far as I have read. The results are anecdotal and informal  from individual claims ( which add up) but still may not be accurate, unless evidence based medicine, from long clinical studies. Anecdotal is a small sample which means a larger chance that it may be unreliable.  That's why I am personally a bit scared of any new procedures. I worry about unknown things and I am a chicken with needles. Some people are not so and braver! But for any procedure, the point is, things can go right. And things can go wrong. There is a risk. Why one has to sign a waiver before every surgery.  I hope in worldwide meniere's conferences 2015 onwards ..that some real breakthrough will surface.  I also hope it will be simple, and rather than a popular medical procedure trending, the cure is foolproof, sucessful, guaranteed and proven on a long experiential basis, large scale studies over long periods of time.

I hope it is something holistic and simple that everyone can do. Which is why I like the information from sufferers themselves...on all the threads...in all the books.. Share the information and cure this horrible disease. Best of luck with all and happy holidays. Jane.

It has been really helpful reading all youyr comments.
