axonal sensory motor neuropothy

Hello everybody. Three years ago I started to experience tightenss in my calfs which began after having surgery for prostate cancer. This evolved into severe twitching and I was given an EMG which showed nerve damage. However, since then it has now progressed and I now suffer severe burning in my feet and ankles, tingling and sensitive to touch. My hands feel like they have been 'nettled'. My limbs ache and a sensation of electricity running through them. The left side of my face, tongue and lips tingle and throb. My sleep is badly disturbed because everything is worse at night or when I relax, or at least I feel it more then. I have been tested for MS, Motor Neurone etc., all were negative. My blood tests come back clear and I have had an MRI on my brain which was normal. I take Pregabelin which takes the edge off my syptoms. I have B12 deficiency and get regular injections to keep this right. However, I also have a long standing neck problem C6/C7 bulging disc resting on a nerve but everything has been attributed to the neuropathy.

Hi David, I'm not a doctor but I would say that there is a good chance that the symptoms you describe come from your neck problem, bulging disc and pressure on the nerves. Go back to your doctor !!!

Hi Sharon, thank you for replying. Ihave been under the same neuro consultant for the last 3 years and, for all he has done tests, I can't seem to get into any dialogue with him. I have loads of unanswered questions. I am going to see my very good GP shortly, who has also been trying to talk to my consultant for the past 2 months (to no avail), and I am going to ask to be refered to a different consultant and to request a referal to a specialist about my neck to hopefully separate, and treat, these problems individually. Take care.

Hi David,

I've been getting severe leg pain for 35 years and neuropathic pain for the last 10 years.

The neuropathic pain is very difficult to treat and I've found the best medication for it is Fentanyl, it's stronger than morphine and is quite effective, another thing you should try is mindfulness meditation

Good luck.

Thank you for your comments. I am grateful for any suggestions or advice and will consider trying anything if I thought it would help.

Good luck
