B Vitamins causing Anxiety?

Hi everyone. I have for some time now stopped all meds including anti depressants/sleeping tablets/ natural supplants to enhance mood and help with insomnia. All I take now first thing in the morning is Vit B6 & B 12, magnesium and calcium oh & Folic Acid. I have been experiencing anxiety that lasts until about midday. I have stumbled across an article that explains that especially B. Vits can act as a stimulant and cause anxiety!! Well, they are supposed to help with serotonin levels etc or so I thought but I had no idea they had this side effect - anyone else had this feeling after taking B vits?

i am glad you mentioned something about this. i take a once daily vitamin that have the B vits in it. and i happen to  feel better after i take one. in the morning. it gives me the little extra lift i need to get the day started. but i thought it was "all in my head", as no other 'once a day'  ever had any effect like that on me, at all. and i noticed just yesterday that if i take it in the afternoon, i have a very hard time getting to sleep at night. i had no idea that a b vitamin would be responsible. so thank you for mentioning it. but i am sorry to hear that it makes you anxious. nothing worse than that!

Hi Laura, I think I might start to do the same and just take 1 mult-vitamin instead of an array of individual ones. Maybe I was just over doing it. Take care, love this forum! X

I didn't know this about B vitamins. Thanks for the info.

I went  to a clinic and health centre in London that advocated B vitamins and the other minerals to overcome me taking medication.  I didn't stop the pills and took the vits for a ltd time. More research is needed to prove that vits etc will alter protein deficiencies in the brain especially neurotransmitters.

Oh that's interesting Richard. It could just be a coincidence but today I've had no anxiety. I'll see how I feel tomorrow.
